2. What are your thoughts on tipping? What businesses or service providers do you regularly tip? Do you resent being asked if you'd like to add a tip? What about when a suggested amount is presented?
3. I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream...do we? Is ice cream a favorite treat at your house? What's your favorite flavor? Regular, soft serve, gelato, sherbet, or some sort of non-dairy version of ice cream...what's your pleasure?
4. What's your 'back in my day, we____________________ ' story or saying?
5. Somehow this is our last Hodgepodge in the month of June. Next week's Hodgepodge lands in July. Wow. Sum up your June using three adjectives.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
What does adventure mean to you?
Adventure, to me, isn’t just about plane tickets or far-off places (though I’ll never say no to a good road trip!). It’s about saying “yes” to the everyday moments that make life rich...packing up for a weekend hockey tournament, wandering small Texas towns with a sweet tea in hand, getting lost in a thrift store, or learning something new. It’s in the detours, the pit stops, the unplanned sunsets, and the “this is so cool” kind of moments. It’s about chasing beauty, embracing chaos, and trusting that God has something good waiting in every mile...even the ones that don’t go as planned.
Adventure is a mindset… and around here, we try to live with our hearts wide open to it.
What are your thoughts on tipping?
I believe in tipping well, especially when it’s clear someone is working hard and showing up with kindness and care. I see tipping as a small way to say thank you and bless someone’s day. We regularly tip in restaurants, grocery delivery drivers, at the car wash, salons, and anywhere else where good service is part of the experience. For me, it’s all about honoring people where they are. If I’m in a place to give extra, I will… because you never know how much it might mean on the other side of that counter.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream… do we?
We do! Well… kind of. Ice cream is definitely a favorite in our house...all three of us love it...but only one of us can actually eat it without regretting it for hours. Over the years, both Nate and I developed a weird allergy to regular ice cream. It leaves us feeling awful, so we’ve had to get creative. We can usually handle soft serve, sherbet, or our homemade ice cream...and let’s be real, nothing beats a bowl of homemade ice cream on a hot Texas day anyway.
Mason, on the other hand? He’s 15, plays hockey practically every day, and has the metabolism of a racehorse. He eats ice cream with most meals like it’s a food group. His go-to is usually classic vanilla or a vanilla shake, or a cotton candy blizzard from DQ, but he’s not too picky...if it’s cold and sweet, he’s happy!
So yes, we still scream for ice cream… we’ve just learned to scream selectively.
Back in my day, we...
stayed outside from sun up until way past sundown.
We didn’t have tablets or smartphones or YouTube...and honestly, we didn’t miss them. Our “screen time” was the sun in our eyes and the stars coming out while we squeezed in one more round of hide-n-go-seek. We rode bikes until our legs were jelly, walked barefoot through every yard on the block, and lived for those popsicles on the porch kind of days. We made our own fun...with neighborhood kids, scraped knees, and imaginations that didn’t need charging.
Life was slower, simpler, and so, so sweet.
Does this make me old?
Sum up your June using three adjectives...
Adventurous. Grateful. Full.
This month was packed...from road-tripping to Colorado for hockey camp, to crossing state lines, chasing sunsets, and checking off bucket list stops along the way. We soaked up time as a family, saw new sights, and made memories I’ll hold onto forever.
I’m ending June with a full heart, tired feet, and a camera roll that tells one beautiful story.
And just a little random (but not-so-random) thought to wrap this up... God is so, so good. Back in March, I wasn’t even sure if I’d be going to Colorado at all. We were facing the very real possibility of brain surgery (for me), and everything felt uncertain. (More on this later). But God. He made a way...not just for healing, but for joy, adventure, and time with my family in one of the most beautiful places. I don’t take a single moment of this month for granted. His faithfulness continues to leave me in awe.
