{Colorado Adventure // days 1–3 // Friends, Father's Day & First Ice Time}

Our much-anticipated Colorado trip is in the books, and I’m so excited to finally sit down and share all the details...starting with the first three days, which were already so full of fun, laughter, and the kind of moments that fill your heart right up.

We rolled into Colorado Springs around 4ish on Saturday evening, tired from the road but so excited to see our dear friends, the Browers. We were greeted with hugs, smiles, and that feeling of being right at home.

After unloading our bags and getting settled in, the Browers made tacos for everyone (the perfect welcome meal, if you ask me). We spent the evening catching up, laughing until our cheeks hurt, and soaking in that sweet reunion energy. The boys were loving life...they stayed up past 2:30 am, just having the best time being together again. It was one of those nights that reminds you how special good friends truly are.

Sunday mid-morning, we headed over to the Air Force Academy to check Mason in for hockey camp (the whole reason for this trip!). We found the hockey table where he picked up his schedule, jersey, warm-up shirt, lanyard, and an AF cinch bag to hold it all. He met the hockey director, and a camp counselor took him down to the locker room where he’d be for the week...such a cool experience! I have a whole separate post about the camp, here, so I won't share too much about it on the daily recaps.

We took a little drive around base and stopped at the other gift shop before heading back to the Browers’ house for a special Father’s Day cookout. They pulled out all the stops...pulled pork, corn on the cob, baked beans, cornbread, and the most delicious stuffed jalapeƱos. The boys played a competitive game of wiffle ball in the backyard. It was one of those simple, soul-filling days.

Monday morning came early...we were out the door by 6:30 am to get Mason checked in and ready for his first full day of camp at the Academy. After drop-off, Nate and I decided to make the most of our morning and head over to Garden of the Gods since it was close by.

We saw deer on the drive in and took our time soaking in the stunning views. Nate even decided to climb a massive rock...only to discover the other side was a straight drop-off. 😳 Safe to say he probably won’t be doing that again anytime soon!

After our little nature adventure, we headed back to the Academy to watch Mason’s first ice session. Not long after that, we found out his group and schedule had changed...a result of some reshuffling due to extra campers showing up for this week. So we stayed at the Academy the rest of the day to watch his second session and support him through the transition.

That night, we ventured out to Gunther Toody’s, a cute little 50s-style diner with checkerboard floors, retro booths, and milkshake vibes. Our waitress was an absolute gem...so sweet and attentive. Isn’t it amazing how the right service can make a meal feel extra special?

After dinner, we headed back to the house for a quiet evening of relaxing and recapping the day. It was the perfect end to our first three days in Colorado.

I already can’t wait to share more from the rest of the trip… but for now, I’m just feeling thankful. For safe travels, good friends, Father’s Day blessings, and the chance to make memories in a place as beautiful as this.

Stay tuned for Days 4–7!
