Welcome to From the Front Porch—a new series here on Hall Around Texas where I’ll be sharing gentle reflections on faith, family, and the everyday beauty we often overlook. Think of it as a quiet moment with a friend, coffee in hand, heart open, and eyes turned toward God.
There’s something sacred about the view from a porch. Maybe it’s the way the breeze carries the scent of changing seasons, or how the rocking chair creaks in rhythm with a slow sunrise. Out here, things move slower, and somehow, they make a little more sense. It’s often where I hear God the clearest.
Today, I want to talk about something that’s been on my heart: waiting. Those seasons where it feels like life is holding its breath. When doors don’t open, prayers seem unanswered, and you wonder if God sees you still rocking back and forth on the porch of hope.
If you’re in a waiting season right now, this devotion is for you.
I’m currently walking through a bit of a medical journey. It's one of those in-between times, where I’ve had tests, follow-ups, and more waiting rooms than I’d care to count. Some days bring hopeful news. Others feel quiet, uncertain, and slow. It's the kind of season that invites all the questions: What now? What next? How long, Lord?
Maybe you’ve been there too...sitting in your own version of a waiting room. Not just physically, but spiritually. Waiting for clarity, for healing, for breakthrough. Waiting for something to shift.
One morning recently, I sat on our front porch, wrapped in a blanket, watching the sky move from a soft gray to gold as the sun slowly rose. It wasn’t rushed. It didn’t skip ahead. It took its time. And yet, all along, God was doing something. Light was coming...even when I couldn’t see it yet.
And I felt Him whisper to my heart:
“You may feel like you’re in a season of waiting, but I’m not still. I’m working.”
That stopped me in my tracks.
Because even when it feels like nothing is changing, God is not idle. He is always working behind the scenes, in places we can’t see, in ways we might not understand. While I wait, He works. And that truth brings me comfort on the hardest days.
Trusting God’s timing isn’t always easy...especially when the world screams for instant answers and overnight fixes. But faith is not about having all the answers right now. It’s about believing that the One who holds time in His hands is using it purposefully.
I’ve had to learn to let go of control (again and again) and lean into God's timing, not mine. It’s not passive...it’s active faith. It’s choosing peace over panic. It’s saying, “Even here, even now, I trust You.”
Psalm 46:10 has been my anchor lately:
“Be still, and know that I am God…” (NIV)
Sometimes being still feels like the hardest thing to do. But stillness isn't inactivity, it's an invitation to rest in the sovereignty of God. It’s a deep breath that says, I don’t know the outcome, but I know the One who does.
If you’re in a waiting season right now, waiting for healing, answers, provision, direction, I want you to know you're not alone. The in-between is hard, but it's not wasted. God does some of His deepest, most beautiful work in the quiet middle places.
Hold onto this: waiting is not a sign that God has forgotten you. It’s often a sign that He’s preparing something bigger than you could imagine. And even in the stillness, He is near.
Let’s be people who wait well. Who trust deeply. Who watch the sunrise and remember that even when we can’t see movement, light is on its way.
From my front porch to yours...
I’m praying you feel His peace in the waiting, His presence in the quiet, and His goodness in every breath.
With love,
Crystal
