This weekend was a mix of highs and lows...a little disappointment, but also a whole lot of love, joy, and quality time with our favorite people. And honestly, that’s what life’s all about, right? Sometimes things don’t go the way we hoped, but God always finds a way to fill in the gaps with goodness.
Friday wrapped up a bit later than usual for me...I was waiting on a file to come through so I could get it to a client. Once that was done, I shut the laptop and unplugged for the evening. We stayed in for dinner and just enjoyed the comfort of being home together. Mason really wanted to go look at some car stuff (we thought Saturday was going to be the day — picking up his first car!), so we took him to browse. Afterward, we treated Mason to ice cream at Georgie Boy’s...a cute little local family-owned ice cream shop that we've never been to. I’ll share more about this gem on Waxahachie Wednesday because it deserves its own spotlight!
The night ended on such a peaceful note. We headed to our favorite “secret spot” at Lake Waxahachie to watch the sunset. It’s one of my absolute favorite things to do with my boys. There’s something so grounding about watching the sun dip behind the water in stillness and quiet...just us, the breeze, and that golden light reflecting off the lake.
Saturday started with excitement. We were supposed to drive an hour and a half to pick up Mason’s first car...a huge milestone moment! But that morning, we got a text from the seller saying she had changed her mind. My heart sank. I dreaded telling Mason...we were all so excited...but in true Mason fashion, he took the news like a champ. He’s such a good-hearted kid. Even though I knew he was disappointed, he handled it with such grace. That boy teaches me so much.
Thankfully, the rest of the day was full of family fun. We had basketball games for our nephews and it was such a joy cheering them on! Cooper played in his very first game and did amazing...4 baskets and 8 points! We had a little break between games and decided to grab brunch at a new spot we hadn’t tried before. I ordered a waffle with a banana foster topping and oh my word, it was divine. Sadly, a new migraine preventative I’m on has killed my appetite lately, so I only managed to eat one triangle. Nate didn’t seem to mind helping me out, though!
Then we headed to the gym for Carson's games. In the first game, his team won 34 to 11 and he scored 10 points! He had a second game after that, which they lost, but he still played great and gave it his all.
After the game, we swung by Dollar Tree for me to pick up some 4th of July goodies. We have a lakehouse requested and my nephews requested a scavenger hunt! I love doing these for them. I wanted to grab some things before they were gone. Then headed home for a bit before grabbing dinner at Rosa’s Café. Waxahachie finally got one and we’re pretty excited about it!
The night ended on such a sweet, unexpected note. Mason went outside to shoot pucks on his hockey net and then popped back in to invite me out to watch fireflies with him. There were so many twinkling around, and he knew how much I’d love it. I could cry just thinking about it...his heart is so tender and thoughtful. I’ll always say it… he’s my greatest blessing.
Sunday morning started with church and the worship service had me weeping. The songs were powerful, the worship team was so anointed, and it felt like the Holy Spirit was just washing over the whole room. Pastor David delivered a moving message in our summer series, “Things Jesus Never Said”. One of the many reasons I love our church is that it preaches straight from the Bible...truth, no fluff, just the Word.
After church, we came home and got ready for Mason’s hockey game. While it ended in a loss, it was such a solid game. We played one of the best teams in the league and held our own like champs. It was actually our first loss of the summer season, but even still, the kids played their hearts out and I couldn’t be prouder. They ended that team’s 80+ shots-on-goal streak — which is a HUGE deal! They’ve got grit, and I’m so excited to see how the season unfolds. Mason had quite the fan club for this game! I love that these people support my boy so well. Oh and PS - Mason found himself in the penalty box this game. We didn't think it was a fair call, but o'well.
We wrapped up Sunday evening preparing for some bad storms heading our way...gotta love that unpredictable Texas weather!
All in all, the weekend may not have gone exactly to plan, but it was full of small, beautiful moments that made my heart feel full. From sunsets and fireflies to basketball cheers and tearful worship, it was a weekend to remember.
I hope your Sunday was beautiful and blessed, too. 💛
