{From the Front Porch // Clinging in the Wind}

Welcome to the second edition of "From the Front Porch" a new series I started here on the blog. You can read all about it and my first post, here. Writing has always been therapeutic for me. For years, this blog has served as mostly our family scrapbook, with a little bit of other stuff mixed in. It will remain our digital scrapbook, but I also want to use this platform to share about Jesus. Thus the idea of  "From the Front Porch" was born...where I share the love of Jesus through a devotion, reflection, or quiet moments of encouragement. Just like a good chat with a friend on the front porch...iced coffee in hand (because it's hot in Texas) and the sun setting in the distance...this series is meant to be a place of peace, rest, and truth.

Whether it's something God has laid on my heart during my quiet time, a lesson learned in the everyday, or a verse that won’t let me go...my hope is that these words point you to Him and remind you that you're deeply known and wildly loved.

Pull up a chair, friend. You're welcome here.

On one of my recent walks, I noticed several patches of wildflowers. If you know me, you know that is something I love fiercely. So I walked over to take some photos. As I was snapping away,  I noticed a tiny bee trying with all its might to land on a wildflower.

The wind was fierce...gusting in every direction, pushing the little bee back again and again. But he didn’t give up. He circled back, fought the wind, and tried once more to plant his feet on that fragile bloom. You could see the determination in the way he hovered, adjusted, and clung tight... even as the world around him tried to knock him off.

And as I stood there, watching this tiny battle unfold, I felt the Lord speak:

This is you. This is life with Me.

So often, we find ourselves fighting just to stay grounded.

The world blows hard...full of distractions, doubts, demands, and heartache. And there we are, wings buzzing, doing our best to hold on to the only place that gives us life: Jesus.

That little bee didn’t know I was watching. He wasn’t putting on a show. He was simply doing what he was created to do...drawn to something sweet, something life-giving, even when the wind fought back.

Isn’t that us?

Drawn to the beauty and truth of our Savior.
Holding on to His promises, even when life is trying to blow us off course.
Returning again and again to the one thing that can nourish our soul.

“My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.” — Psalm 63:8

Clinging is an act of faith.

It doesn’t always look pretty or strong. Sometimes it looks like tears on your pillow or whispered prayers in the dark.

Sometimes it looks like showing up to church when your heart feels far away.

Sometimes it’s simply not letting go.

Like that bee, we weren’t created to fly on our own forever. We were created for connection...to the vine, to the Rock, to the Shepherd who steadies us when the storms come.

The wildflower bent in the wind, but it didn’t uproot.
The bee got knocked off a few times, but he kept coming back.

And in that simple scene, I saw a beautiful reminder:
The wind may blow, but it can’t uproot the One we cling to.

So if you’re in a season where everything feels shaky… if you’re tired of the fight… if you’re questioning whether your grip is strong enough...take heart. God is holding on to you. Even when your wings are weary, He is your refuge and strength.

Keep coming back.
Keep clinging to the Savior.
Even in the wind.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23
