{Weekend Wrap-up & Hello Monday // August 2025}

This weekend was a little different for us. Nate had to work Friday through Sunday in preparation for Governor Greg Abbott and another important guest coming to sign a big contract. I thought I might use the weekend to really knock some things off my to-do list and be productive…but truthfully, I was only semi-productive. Something shifts when we aren’t together, and I’m not a big fan of it. I’m just so lost without him. I’ll try to dive into projects, but most of the time I find myself just waiting for him to walk through that door again. After 29 years together, I still want to spend every moment with him, and I don’t take that gift lightly! Anyhow, here’s a peek at our “different” kind of weekend.

Friday

I actually had the day off, which is unusual. Usually, Nate is the one off on Fridays while I work since he does four 10-hour shifts. That morning I picked up my mother-in-law, and we met up with my two sisters-in-law and one of their moms for a birthday brunch. We went to The Morning Table in Waxahachie, and y’all...it was amazing! I loved the way the place was decorated, and the food, staff, and service were impeccable. We had such a sweet time just visiting and celebrating together.

After brunch, I dropped off Nate’s mom and ran back to town to tackle a few errands. Later that evening, once Nate got home, we walked over to his parents’ house for a little visit. We ended up staying for hours just talking and watching monarch butterflies and hummingbirds in their yard. There were so many of them! If you know me, you know how much I adore hummingbirds...I’ll never pass up an opportunity to watch those little miracles in action. Butterflies, too. I was snapping photos and videos left and right. After that, we headed home for supper and called it an early night since Nate had to be up for work the next morning.

Saturday

Nate left for work around 5 a.m., and I was up not long after, around 7. I lingered in bed for about an hour before making an iced coffee and heading to the porch for some Bible time. I’m currently doing the She Reads Truth study in Proverbs, so I caught up on that before going back inside to do a little tidying: laundry, dishes, and straightening up. Then I sat down for a little crafting time...some Bible DIY projects I’ll share more about soon. I made the cutest bookmarks using tiny felt bows. I had College Football Countdown on in the background while I crafted, which made me all kinds of excited for fall.

Later, I ordered groceries, got ready, and headed into town. I stopped by my sister-in-law’s work where they were having an end-of-summer event. They had the Creature Teacher with snakes, lizards, a baby kangaroo, and even a tortoise. There was a face painter, games, swag, and a Kona Ice truck. My in-laws, brother-in-law, nephews, and aunt-in-law were there, so I hung out with them for a bit and met some of my sister-in-law’s friends. It was such a sweet time.

From there, I went to hunt down some “free little libraries” in town. I only found one, but I left a few books and picked one up. The second one is supposedly in the downtown area somewhere, but without an exact address I’ll have to go back on a weekday to explore. After that, I came home, worked on some Bible verse mapping add-ins for my Bible, and got in a little reading. Then I walked back over to my in-laws’ to hang out with them and my nephews. My brother and sister-in-law came later with their dogs, which made for a lively evening!

When Nate got home, we had supper together before Mason asked if we’d take him to Valley Ranch to watch a hockey game. Two of his friends were playing against each other, so of course we went. Y’all, it was so fun to be back at a hockey game...it just made me even more ready for hockey season to be in full swing. After the game, we headed home and called it a night.

Sunday

Sunday morning I went to the early service at church alone since Nate was at work. Mason is still battling a sinus infection and his sleep schedule has been all over the place, so I let him rest. We wrapped up our Fruits of the Spirit series, and this week was on self-control. Our pastor said something that really stuck with me: “Self-control is a wall that protects us from the attacks of the enemy.” Wow, isn’t that good?

Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling well during the service...nausea hit me hard. I go through phases of this with my migraine medication, and Sunday just happened to be one of those days. Once I got home, I decided to rest and ended up taking a two-hour nap. Y’all, it felt like 10 minutes, but it was glorious all the same. The rest of the day was low-key. I worked on this post, read a little, and waited for Nate to get home from work. I did cut a bouquet of flowers from my garden before my nap.

Nate got home a little after four. We visited and then grabbed Soulman's for supper. I still wasn't feeling well, so I didn't eat much! Nate had a fantasy football draft and I watched a live video of one of those surprise jewelry parties (those are so interesting to me! lol). Then we called it a night.

Even though it was a different kind of weekend without Nate around much, I’m so thankful for the little pockets of sweetness...brunch with family, butterflies and hummingbirds, Bible time on the porch, and even hockey. God is so good to give us those simple joys, even in the middle of a weird or heavy week/weekend.
