We recently returned from the sweetest beach trip to Freeport, TX, where our beach house was tucked right on the marina. All day long, we watched boats of every size quietly come and go...fishermen casting lines at sunrise, families returning after a day on the water, even the occasional yacht coasting by as the sun dipped low on the horizon. There was a gentle rhythm to it all. The comings and goings. The stillness and the motion. The waiting and the moving forward.
One evening, as I sat out by the water, I found myself mesmerized by the scene in front of me. The wind softly moved across the surface, the light danced on the water, and the boats gently swayed with the tide. And in that quiet moment, I was reminded of just how much this looked like life... our life with Jesus.
Sometimes, we're like those boats...anchored for a season, waiting patiently in the still waters, just taking in the view. Other times, we’re moving forward, full steam ahead, trusting the Captain to guide us through every twist and turn. And there are moments, too, when we feel tossed by the winds and waves, uncertain where we’re headed or how long the storm will last.
But through it all...the stillness, the motion, the in-between...He is there. He is steady. Faithful. Our anchor and our compass. Our harbor and our hope.
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” – Hebrews 6:19
Just like those boats at the marina, our lives are safest when we are tied to the right dock...to Jesus. We may drift a little with the current, we may sway with the wind, but as long as we are anchored to Him, we’re never truly lost.
Watching the sun set each night over that water reminded me of His faithfulness all over again. The same God who painted the sky with pinks and golds is the same One who holds our hearts steady when the waters rise. He is our peace. Our place of rest. Our always and forever home.
Where are you anchored today, friend?
Are you rushing, resting, or somewhere in between? Wherever you are, I pray you feel the steady presence of the One who never lets go.
From my front porch to yours... may you always feel the nearness of God, the beauty in the ordinary, and joy in the little things.
