{Wednesday Hodgepodge // 8-20/2025}

It’s time for another round of Wednesday Hodgepodge questions! I’ll be honest… I almost skipped out on today because of the kind of week I’ve been having. You know those weeks where everything feels a little heavier than it should? That’s been me. But then I thought about how much I actually look forward to these Hodgepodge posts each week...not just writing my answers, but also hopping around and visiting all of my favorite bloggers to see how they answered, too. It always feels a little like catching up with friends over coffee. So instead of sulking through the week, I figured this would be the perfect way to lift my spirits a bit. Sometimes a handful of fun questions is just what the heart needs.

1. What's worth standing in line for?

Hmm, I’ve never really thought too much about this one, so here comes a little rapid-fire list of the first things that pop into my head. Church on Christmas Eve (yes, there’s a line…Christmas and Easter are our biggest services and for good reason!). Rides or shows at Disney World. The check-out line at my favorite thrift store (worth every second for the treasures I’ve found!). Boarding a cruise ship or a plane. My turn to hug someone I adore. Those are all things I’ll gladly wait for.

2. Tell us about a favorite food related memory.

If I’m being honest, I don’t really have a lot of “foodie” type memories. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the most adventurous when it comes to food. But if I had to pick, my favorite food-related memories almost all come from cruises! Something about being out at sea makes me a little braver. On our last cruise, I tried a poke bowl and really loved it...totally unusual for me. One of the most memorable dining experiences has to be on a Disney Cruise. The themed dining rooms, the shows, and the whole atmosphere just make the meal an experience. And then there’s Medieval Times! I kind of freaked out the first time we went...no silverware and meat on a bone?? The audacity! (I kid, I kid.) Thankfully, I have a fabulous husband who helps me with that part. In the end, I really loved the food and of course, the entertainment that comes with it.

3. What are some things you find particularly peaceful or calming?

Another quick list for this one. Worship music...my number one. Anytime I feel anxious, I turn on worship and within seconds I feel peace. It’s also my secret weapon for chores. Something about folding laundry while belting out “Graves Into Gardens” makes it all feel less like a chore and more like a blessing. I also find the sound of the ocean incredibly calming. A beautiful sunset or sunrise never fails to still my heart. And last but not least…the smell of my husband. Yep, he made the list.

4. Is there something you do now that gets you just as excited as it did when you were a child?

Yes, absolutely! Planning or taking a trip to Tennessee will always be one of those things that stirs my heart with excitement because it means I get to see some of my favorite people...my grandparents and family there. Watching a sunrise or sunset still makes me giddy, just like it did when I was little. I feel them deep in my soul...they’re such a beautiful gift from the Lord. And of course…Christmas! My favorite then, my favorite now. Only now I get to experience it while making traditions and memories with my own family, which is even sweeter.

5. To what degree are you in touch with friends from grade school? high school? college?

Funny enough, this question feels so timely! Tonight, I’m actually meeting up with some of my friends from 2nd grade…along with our teacher! We had her in 2nd and 5th grade, and she even requested to have us in her class again when we moved up. How special is that? And the fact that we’re still in touch all these years later? Such a gift. That means I’ve had friendships lasting over 35+ years, and I don’t take that lightly.

And a few years later, Cole added this time.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Anyone else counting down to the weekend already? Monday was the Mondayest of Mondays, yesterday was rough at work, and today I’m still a little salty about it. Not really, but kind of. Ha! Thankfully, tomorrow is my Friday, and I am not mad about that one bit. Here’s to hoping the rest of the week turns itself around.

And that’s another Wednesday Hodgepodge in the books! I always enjoy these little chances to pause and reflect on life’s big and small moments...the serious ones, the funny ones, and everything in between. If this week has been a bit heavy for you too, I pray you can find those little pockets of peace that calm your soul. Whether it’s worship music, sunsets, or something as simple as the smell of a loved one, I hope you find it and hold onto it. Here’s to finishing the week strong and heading into the weekend with full hearts.
