{Texas Tuesday // The Roadside Tomb of Christ in Brownfield, TX}

There's something truly special about discovering faith-based roadside attractions...especially the ones that stop you in your tracks and stir your heart. On a trip through West Texas, we stumbled across a place that did exactly that: a large white cross and a walk-in tomb, quietly nestled off the highway just outside of Brownfield, TX.

Welcome to this week’s Texas Tuesday, where I’m spotlighting the powerful and peaceful Roadside Tomb of Christ, located on U.S. Highway 380 just a few miles west of Brownfield.

About the site:

This unique attraction features:

  • A striking white cross that stands tall and visible from the road.

  • A stone tomb replica, complete with a rolled-away stone and a path leading inside.

  • Inside the tomb, you’ll find a peaceful little space and an inscription that reads, “He Is Risen.”

  • Visitors can step inside the tomb for reflection and even sign a guest log.

It’s quiet, humble, and deeply moving...especially if you're someone who loves to find God’s reminders in unexpected places.

Location details:

  • Name - Roadside Tomb of Christ
  • Address - approx 1623 US Hwy 380, just 2-4 miles west of Brownfield, TX
  • Region - South Plains/West Texas
  • Parking - there's a small pull-off area right off the road
  • Open to the Public - yes, it's on a private property but clearly intended for public reflection

Why we loved it:

In the middle of wide open West Texas skies and cotton fields, this little spot was like a sacred pause. It’s not flashy, there’s no gift shop or crowds...just a simple and reverent reminder of the resurrection. We stayed for a few quiet moments to take it all in, and I left feeling encouraged and grounded.

It’s the kind of place that makes a road trip feel more like a pilgrimage.

Tips for Visiting:

  • It's best visited during the day - there is no lighting after dark
  • Be respectful as this is a spiritual site and maintained by private citizens
  • Bring your camera - the cross & tomb against the West Texas sky makes for a beautiful photo!
  • Consider adding it to your itinerary if you're traveling from Lubbock, Roswell, or anywhere along US - 380.

Final Thoughts:

The Roadside Tomb of Christ is a quiet treasure in the heart of West Texas, unexpected, unassuming, but full of meaning. It’s a beautiful example of how Texans share their faith, right alongside the highways that crisscross our great state.
