Texas Burger Bucket List | 4 Must-Try Burger Joints in the Lone Star State
If there’s one thing Texas knows how to do right, besides BBQ, tacos, and sweet tea, it’s a good, juicy burger. We’ve got no shortage of iconic, mom-and-pop, griddle-sizzled masterpieces scattered across this great state. And over the years, my family and I have made it a little mission of ours to find the best of the best.
So today I’m kicking off our Texas Burger Bucket List...a roundup of places that have won us over one bite at a time. Whether you’re road-tripping through small towns or exploring local gems, these spots are absolutely worth the stop (and the calories).
🍔 Herd’s Burgers | Jacksboro, TX
You know you’ve found a gem when there’s a line out the door and the place hasn’t changed much since 1916. Herd’s is a little slice of Texas burger history, and they’ve been doing it right for over 100 years. No frills, no fancy toppings, just fresh, smashed patties with crispy edges, soft buns, and a nostalgic diner feel that’s hard to beat.
Tip: Go classic with just cheese, mustard, and pickles. Simplicity wins here.
🍔 Oma’s Jiffy Burger | Waxahachie, TX
🍔 Grump’s Burgers | Burleson, TX
Grump’s has that neighborhood burger joint vibe that makes you want to stay a while. The burgers are thick, juicy, and totally customizable, plus they’ve got homemade buns that are next-level good. It’s a local favorite for a reason, and definitely one of our go-to spots when we’re in Burleson. Enhance your burger with options like the jalapeño bun, jalapeño bacon, or the distinctive jalapeño ketchup for an extra kick.
Tip: Don't miss the "Dirty Fries"...a fan favorite loaded with grilled jalapeños and onions.
🍔 Kincaid’s Hamburgers | Fort Worth, TX
An old grocery store turned burger haven...Kincaid’s is Fort Worth royalty. It’s been serving up award-winning burgers since the 1940s and still draws crowds for its fresh-ground beef, toasted buns, and big Texas flavor. It’s a little taste of tradition with every bite. Sides include crinkle-cut fries, homemade onion rings, fried okra, and stuffed jalapeños. Desserts feature banana pudding, ice cream floats, and Mindy Lu's fried pies.
Tip: Their old-school vibe is strong, so grab a Dr. Pepper and a bag of chips while you’re there for the full experience.
