{From the Front Porch // Sacred Sunsets}

There are few things in life that stop me in my tracks the way a sunset does. You’ll often find me pulling off to the side of a country road, barefoot on the porch, or stepping away from dinner just to watch the sky unfold.

It’s not just the colors...though those fiery oranges, soft purples, and glowing pinks always feel like a love letter from Heaven...it’s the way a sunset speaks to my soul.

Sunsets are sacred to me.

In a world that moves fast...hockey schedules, work deadlines, road trips, grocery runs, and the never-ending to-do list...the sunset feels like God’s gentle reminder to slow down. To breathe. To look up.

Each evening, He paints the sky differently. Some nights it’s bold and dramatic. Other nights it’s soft and watercolor-like. But always, it’s beautiful. Always, it invites stillness.

When the sun begins its descent, I feel the tug in my spirit. “Come watch,” He whispers. And I do. Because I don’t want to miss the moment He’s written in the sky for me.

Every single day, without fail, the sun rises… and the sun sets. Even on the hard days. Even in seasons of waiting or uncertainty. Even when life feels upside down.

To me, sunsets are a visual promise of God’s faithfulness...proof that He is steady, constant, and still writing the story.

There’s comfort in knowing that while everything else changes, His goodness never does.

There’s something about Texas skies that just hit different. Maybe it’s the wide open space or the way the light filters through the trees along a backroad. Maybe it’s the quiet hum of crickets or the breeze that picks up as the heat fades.

Sunsets here feel like home. They hold memories of porch swings and fireflies, of driving with the windows down, of slowing life long enough to really see the people I love.

There’s a holiness in that thin space between day and night. It’s the in-between... the moment where everything softens and time feels slower.

When I watch a sunset, it becomes a kind of prayer. A time to reflect, to be grateful, to process the day with God.

Sometimes I talk to Him. Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I just sit in silence and feel His presence wrap around me in hues of gold and lavender.

Watching sunsets has become a rhythm in my life...a sacred practice that connects me to God and to myself. They remind me that beauty still exists, that peace can be found in the pause, and that the Creator of the universe paints for us daily, if only we’ll take time to look.

If you’ve never stopped to really watch a sunset... like really watch it...I encourage you to try. Step outside, even for five minutes. Just… be there. Just soak it all in. Take time to stop and thank Him. The Creator of the Universe and the painter of these beautiful skies.

And if you’re already a fellow sunset chaser, I’d love to know...what do sunsets mean to you? Let’s celebrate the sacred and ordinary beauty together.

From my front porch to yours... may you always feel the nearness of God, the beauty in the ordinary, and joy in the little things.
