Last week, I mentioned that I was going to dinner with some friends (and our teacher) that I’ve known for… well, about 37 years! We got together last Wednesday at the same spot we met back in 2011. It was such a sweet, nostalgic time together.
Thinking back, it’s amazing how it all started. Back in 2nd grade, we were all in the same class with Gina as our teacher (it still feels a little weird calling her by her first name!). We all instantly clicked, and she quickly became our favorite teacher. Fast forward a few years to 5th grade, Gina moved up to teach that grade and, to our delight, requested that we all be in her class again. Another year with our favorite teacher...it truly felt like a gift.
Life takes us all in different directions, and over the years we’ve all moved, changed jobs, started families, and experienced so much. But through it all, I am so grateful that we’ve managed to stay in touch, for the most part! Kristy has the most to do with that. She is truly the best at cultivating friendships and keeping us all connected, making sure these bonds remain strong no matter where life takes us.
Sitting around the table with these ladies last week, I couldn’t help but reflect on how special this is. To still know these friends after so many years is a blessing. And the fact that Gina made such an impact on our lives that we want to spend time with her even now, as adults, is just so remarkable.
God is so good to give us friendships that stand the test of time...friendships rooted in laughter, shared memories, and love. Last Wednesday was a sweet reminder of that, and I’m so grateful for every single person at that table.
