{What we're Reading // Vol. 8}

We're back for our eighth edition of "What We're Reading"! Thank you to all you that have linked up with us thus far. It's been fun to see what everyone else is reading each month. My book list is now never ending and I love it. I've recently rekindled my love for reading. I thought I loved a good paperback book, but it's proving easier to read on the Kindle app on my phone. Here is a look at what we are reading this month.
R E A D I N G  F O R  M E
I made great strides in reading during the beginning of the month! I read every night and morning while on vacation and then started listening to audio books once we got back. It's easier for me to listen to books while working during the day. If not, I'd never really have time to fit it in. And then life got crazy towards the end of the month and I had to slow down on the reading. Here's a look at what I read this month...

Goodreads description: After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity—until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.

Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.

My thoughts: I loved this book! It sucked me in right from the beginning and I found myself reading until 1 in the morning a couple of nights. I loved the suspense of the murder investigation all while a love story was unfolding. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. This was my first book to read by this author and I really like her style.

Goodreads description: After a harrowing accident tore her family apart, Molly Brennan fled from the man she loved and the tragic mistake she made.

Twelve years later, Molly has created a new life for herself and her eight-year-old daughter, Cassie. The art history professor crafts jewelry as unique and weathered as the surf-tumbled sea glass she collects, while raising her daughter in a safe and loving environment—something Molly never had. But when Cassie is plagued by horrific visions and debilitating nightmares, Molly is forced to return to the one place she swore she’d never move back to—home to Pacific Grove.

A riveting exploration of love, secrets, and motherhood, All the Breaking Waves is the poignant story of a woman who discovers she must confront her past, let go of her guilt, and summon everything in her power to save her daughter.

My thoughts: I really enjoyed the book! It was a pretty quick read, too. Some of the things in the book seemed pretty far fetched {the gifts of the women}, but it still kept my attention with suspense. I enjoyed the history of two of the main characters and couldn't wait for them to finally just get together.

After I finished these two it was hard for me to find another to start. I had about 10 books on my Audible and didn't want to download something new until I read these. So I listened to several of them for a bit until I found one that I was interested in beginning. Which was this book:

Goodreads description: From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a PeopleMagazine pick and a "Best Book of the Summer" by Glamour and USA Today—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.

In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.

On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.

Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.

That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.

Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?

Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.

My thoughts: It was a good read! On Audible it's a little over an 8 hour read (or listen), but it seemed like it went a lot quicker than that. The story line is captivating and I couldn't wait to see how the burn ended and which guy Emma chose. Spoiler alert - it didn't go the way I wanted it to. Ugh!

Besides our devotional the only other thing we are reading is The Secret Garden. I loved this book as a child and was so excited when Mason showed interest in reading it. We have been reading a little bit before bed on some nights. Our evenings are usually so busy that we just melt into bed and are too tired to read. But, we need to change that. I love reading with him. So far, Mason is loving the book. He even deemed it his favorite book the other day. I am loving re-reading this with Mason. It's been so many years since I have read it that I forgot so much of it!

What are you reading right now?

Johannah from The Sirois Family
Whitney from Work it Mommy
Crystal from Hall around Texas
Stephanie from Wife Mommy Me
Whitney from Polka-Dotty Place
Heather from My Glittery Heart
Justine from Little Dove Blog
