{New Mexico Vacation // Day 4}

One of the best parts about recapping a vacation is going through all of the photos and reliving all of the moments! We made so many awesome memories in New Mexico and packed so much into those 7 days that we were there. Vacations are good for the soul. Today I am recapping day 4 of our vacation. It was easily one of my favorite days of our trip!

Day four is the day we drove about 58 miles over to Cloudcroft, and then another 20 miles to Alamogordo, and then another 16 miles to White Sands National Monument. Five years ago we vacationed in Cloudcroft, NM {posts here, here, here, and here}. We enjoyed that vacation so much, so we were excited to visit there again. We started off by shopping all of the shops in Cloudcroft Village. Michelle and I did a wine tasting while there. We can hardly pass those up!

After visiting most of the shops in Cloudcroft Village we drove about a mile up the other side to The Lodge. We didn't really explore it much when we visited there last, but we heard that it was something to see. The hotel is super neat and we enjoyed the tower/overlook. We remembered our cabin we stayed at last time being so close to the Lodge that we could see parts of it from the cabin. So we drove around to try to find it, but we failed in doing so.

After visiting The Lodge we headed to The Old Apple Barn. We remember it being one of our favorite places when we were there last. Mason especially loved it because of all the sweet treats and old time toys. However, this time it was so incredibly crowded that it was hard to enjoy it. Some of our best little secrets are being found! Such a bummer.

After we filled our bellies with cherry cider, cherry cider shakes, and lemonade we loaded back up to head to Alamogordo in search of somewhere to eat for lunch. We settled on Chili's because we knew it would be a good place to cool off {it was about 20 degrees warmer than where we were camping} and where we could kill some time. It was over 100 degrees and we were scared that it would be too hot to enjoy White Sands National Monument. After a couple of hours we drove to White Sands. Once again we were mesmerized by the mountains of snow white sand! Mason couldn't wait to get out of the truck and play. We had ordered some sleds before we left home so that we would be prepared. We all had a blast!! And, we were not hot at all. It was 99 degrees when we pulled in, but it didn't feel near that. There was a breeze and the sand was cool instead of hot.

And then we stayed and watched the most incredible sunset over the sand! We weren't sure that we'd see a good sunset because a storm was rolling in when we first got there. But the storm must have broke off or moved another direction. The sunset and the weather were glorious!!!

Have you ever been to White Sands National Monument?
