{Prayers for the new school year}

Prayers for Back to School - Hall Around Texas

As the new school year approaches I often find myself praying over Mason, his teachers and his school. I pray that he loves his new teacher, that he is able to get his lunchbox off of his backpack, that he easily makes new friends, that he adjusts well to the new schedule and routine, etc. There are so many worries and anxieties that come along with a new school year and I just want to hand those all over to God through prayer. Today I am sharing 10 of those prayers with you.

1.) S A F E T Y

Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. Psalm 16:1 (NIV)

Lord, please place a hedge of protection around our schools and our children and keep them out of harm's way. I pray that you armor my child physically, mentally and spiritually.

2.) S T E A D F A S T N E S S

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. - 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that my child stays steadfast in You and not conform to that of the world. As the world tries to pull him away I pray that you draw him nearer to You. May his faith never waiver.

3.) K I N D N E S S

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. - Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that my child shows kindness to everyone that he encounters. I pray that he seeks out the new kid or the lonely kid and shows them love and compassion. May he be a friend to all. I pray that he speaks kindness and shows the love of Christ daily.

4.) D I S C E R N M E N T

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. - 2 Corinthians 10"5 (NIV)

Lord, please give my child the wisdom to be able to discern right from wrong and to practice it daily.

5.) O B E D I E N C E

Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you. - Hebrews 13:17 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that my child has an obedient heart. I pray that he puts aside his strong will and follows the rules rather than making his own. May he have open ears and an open heart and always obey the first time.

6.) L E A R N I N G

Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance. - Proverbs 1:5 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that my child has a passion for learning and a thirst for knowledge. Please let him have open ears and a mind that grasps all that he needs to know.

7.) P E A C E

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - John 14:27 (NIV)

Lord, please calm my child's anxious heart and overwhelm him with peace as the new school year begins. Make Your presence known and help him to remember you are always with him. Let him not worry about a new classroom, new teacher, new classmates, but instead let him find the joys in all of these things.

8.)  P A T I E N C E

The end of a matter is better than it's beginning, and patience is better than pride. - Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that you give my child the gift of patience. May he slow down and not rush through his work. I pray that he is patient with his teachers as well as his classmates. I also pray that your teacher is patient with you and sensitive to your individual needs.

9.) F R I E N D S H I P S

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend. - Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that my child chooses his friends wisely. May he always be surrounded with people that point him back to You.

10.) B O L D N E S S

He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ - with all boldness and without hindrance! - Acts 28:31 (NIV)

Lord, I pray that my child may always be bold when it comes to Jesus. May he always speak about You with courage. I pray that through him others can see You and that he always shines the light of Jesus. I know that in public school his faith will be challenged daily and I pray that he is never ashamed to live for You, Father. I pray that he shares the Gospel any chance that he gets.

  5. Crystal, this is exactly what this Momma needs. CJ is going to school 5 days a week this year and I've been worried it will be too much. I need to stop worrying and start praying.

  7. This is exactly what I needed after sending both of our kids back to school these last couple of weeks. When they are not in our care, we can only pray that those who are watching over them can do a good job of continuing our work in our absence. Love this, Crystal!
