One of my very favorite things about Texas is its charming small-town squares. There’s just something about brick-lined streets, historic courthouses, boutique shops, and local cafés that makes me feel instantly at home. And while Texas town squares are delightful year-round, they really come alive in the fall.
Crisp mornings, golden leaves, pumpkins on every corner, and festive events make fall the perfect season to stroll a square, sip a warm drink, and soak in the charm. For this week’s Texas Tuesday, I’m rounding up some of the best fall town squares in Texas...places where history, hospitality, and seasonal magic meet.
1. Granbury
Granbury’s courthouse square is picture-perfect in every season, but especially in the fall. Their Harvest Moon Festival of the Arts fills the square with artists, vendors, and live music...the perfect backdrop for crisp fall days.
2. Waxahachie
I might be biased (hello, hometown love!), but Waxahachie is truly magical in the fall. The historic square is filled with antique shops, cafés, and plenty of seasonal décor. Strolling with a pumpkin spice latte in hand feels just right here.
3. Georgetown
Known as the “Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas,” Georgetown shines in the fall. With historic buildings, cozy restaurants, and a community that embraces seasonal festivities, it’s a great spot to shop, eat, and wander.
4. Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg mixes small-town charm with Hill Country beauty. In the fall, you’ll find Oktoberfest celebrations, pumpkin patches, and the kind of weather that makes patio dining on Main Street extra enjoyable.
5. McKinney
McKinney’s square is vibrant and bustling with shops, wineries, and restaurants. Their Scare on the Square and fall festivals bring a festive feel, while the historic architecture makes it all the more charming.
6. Jefferson
This East Texas gem feels like stepping back in time. With antique shops, horse-drawn carriage rides, and fall foliage, Jefferson’s square is ideal for a cozy autumn getaway.
7. Llano
Set against the backdrop of the Colorado River and Hill Country views, Llano’s square has a rustic Texas charm. Fall events, chili cook-offs, and local shops make it a great seasonal stop.
8. Glen Rose
Known for its historic courthouse and family-friendly vibe, Glen Rose’s square is extra charming in the fall. Grab a bite, explore the shops, and then enjoy the nearby natural beauty of Dinosaur Valley State Park in autumn colors.
9. Salado
Though it’s smaller, Salado’s quaint village-style square offers cozy shops, art galleries, and seasonal festivals. It’s perfect for a quiet fall afternoon stroll.
10. Ennis
Ennis might be famous for its spring bluebonnets, but the town square is just as lovely in the fall. Seasonal décor, community events, and small-town warmth make it worth a visit before the holidays.
Texas truly knows how to do small-town charm, and in the fall, these squares become the heart of community life. Whether you’re shopping local, sipping something warm, or just wandering under the glow of twinkle lights, these town squares will make you fall in love with Texas all over again.
What about you? Do you have a favorite town square to visit in the fall? I’d love to hear which Texas towns make your list!
