{From the Front Porch // A Peaceful Home is a Sanctuary for the Soul}

 Written on 8/20/2025

I recently came across a quote that stopped me in my tracks... “A peaceful home is a sanctuary for the soul.” I couldn’t agree more. Over the past several months, I’ve been intentionally working to make our home exactly that… a sanctuary. A place where peace fills the rooms, where laughter echoes through the walls, and where we genuinely love to just be.

Part of this was brought on by necessity...my health forced me to slow down, to stay home more than usual. But what started as a season of limitation turned into one of the sweetest blessings. We’ve spent more time at home than ever before, and we’ve realized just how much we enjoy being here together. Home has become our safe place, our retreat, our sanctuary.

There have even been times when we were out and about, busy with errands or activities, and Mason has looked at us and said, “I think I’m just ready to be home.” And isn’t that something special? To know that our child feels safest, happiest, and most loved within these walls...that’s exactly the kind of home I’ve prayed we would build. A place where he knows he belongs. A place where he feels wrapped up in love and security.

Psalm 91:1 says, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” Just as God is our refuge and place of peace, I believe our homes can reflect that same spirit of sanctuary. When we invite His presence in, when we fill our space with prayer, love, and grace, it becomes more than just a house. It becomes a safe haven.

Home doesn’t have to be perfect or picture-ready. It doesn’t need the latest decor or spotless rooms. What matters most is the atmosphere we create...the peace, the love, the joy, the safety. That’s what makes a house a home, and that’s what makes a home a sanctuary for the soul.

So today I am thankful for the walls that hold us, the roof that covers us, and the love that fills this space. More than anything, I’m grateful that God is the center of it all… because when He is, peace follows.

From my front porch to yours... may you always feel the nearness of God, the beauty in the ordinary, and joy in the little things.
