Tuesday morning rolled around and, before I even got out of bed, I felt that little nudge to finally do something I’ve been meaning to try for ages... a “day in the life” post. I can’t tell you how many times the thought has crossed my mind in the middle of the day...when it’s far too late to start snapping photos and jotting down details. But this time I actually remembered right from the start and decided to take you along with me through an ordinary Tuesday.
Now, to be honest, our days from 8 to 4 aren’t usually anything fancy. I’m a work-from-home, homeschooling mama, and while there is so much beauty tucked into that rhythm, it’s not always what you’d call eventful. Mason officially kicks off his homeschool year on Monday, so this particular day didn’t include any lessons. But what it did include is hockey...which has started to ramp up again and will keep us going strong from now through March! Ha! Life of a hockey family, right? So, grab your coffee and come along with me as I share a peek into our simple, sweet, and sometimes busy little Tuesday, September 2nd.
6:30 am ... My alarm went off for the second time and this time I made myself get up. I brushed my teeth, washed my face, got dressed for the day, and let our sweet Lexi girl outside. While she was out, I filled up the water bowls for both Lexi and Willow... our yellow lab and our cat.
7:00 am ... I laced up my shoes and headed out for a walk. The air was surprisingly pleasant for a Texas morning and it felt so good to get my body moving. Since I work from home and spend a lot of my day at a desk, I’ve learned how important it is to start my mornings with a little movement...it sets the tone for the rest of the day.
7:30 am ... Back at home, I poured myself a Dr Pepper Zero in one of my favorite fall mugs. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but I do love a cute seasonal mug. With my drink in hand, I grabbed my Bible, along with Lexi and Willow, and we all headed to the porch. That’s where I spent some quiet time with Jesus, studying Psalm 16. The morning sun was streaming in so beautifully... it felt like He was literally shining His light on the Word. And yes, I took way too many pictures...but how could I not with light like that?
7:58 am ... Before settling into work, I took a few minutes to water my little cut-flower garden. Those blooms have been such a joy to tend to this summer.
8:00 am ... Time to start the workday. My official schedule is 8 to 4, but I normally like to begin closer to 7:30. There’s just something about that extra half hour of quiet in the morning that makes me so much more productive. Even though I started a little later today, I was ready to settle in and focus.
8:55 am ... Time for my first stand break of the day. I’m trying hard to be intentional about getting up, moving around, and giving my eyes a break from the computer screen. Just a few minutes makes such a difference... it’s like hitting reset. I’ve been spending two minutes each break on the vibration plate (full intensity) and I really do feel better throughout the day.
10:20 am ... Another stand break and more time on the vibration plate.
12:55 pm ... Yep, you guessed it... stand break and vibration plate time.
12:58 pm ... Let Lexi out for a potty break. I always have to remind her why we’re outside though because she just wants to stay glued to my side.
1:02 pm ... Made Mason a couple of sandwiches while he took out the trash for me. I know he’s more than capable of making his own... but I like doing it for him every now and then. Especially this week as we’re picking up his very first car... it just felt good to do this little mama thing for him and remind myself he still needs me.
1:05 pm ... Grabbed myself a quick little lunch.
2:23 pm ... Threw supper in the crockpot. It was a super simple night with copycat Chili’s queso to use for nachos. Nate would be getting home right at the same time I needed to leave, so easy meals are my friend on nights like this.
4:00 pm ... Clocked out and went to check the mail. Happy mail makes everything better... my BP order came in! If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a surprise jewelry order party mostly on TikTok. You order through their live link and then they reveal your items on a live. It’s so much fun to watch and a little addicting. This time I got a gorgeous necklace and ring... can’t wait to wear them!
4:15 pm ... Got dressed and ready to head out. Grabbed a small bowl of queso with a few chips because that’s all I had time for.
4:55pm... Nate got home so I visited with him for a few minutes. We caught up (very quickly) about our days.
5:00 pm ... Left the house for a hockey board meeting before practice. Nate and I do not like driving separate if we can help it. But, I had an early meeting and he and Mase would just be sitting at the rink for 2 hours before.
5:05 pm ... Quick Sonic stop for a drink. I went with a Sprite Zero with extra cherry... so good.
5:19 pm ... This song was on repeat during my drive to the rink.
5:39 pm ... Parking lot selfies before heading in.
5:40 pm ... Walked into the rink for our board meeting.
5:45–7:00 pm ... Meeting time! We discussed all the things for the upcoming season. Our new coach and director has so many great ideas and an amazing vision for the club. It’s going to be such an exciting year and I can’t wait to see it all unfold.
7:00 pm ... Met up with Nate in the lobby and visited with friends. It was so good to see everyone again. Even though some teams were split into JV Silver and JV Bronze this season... the great thing is we still get to practice together. The rink was buzzing with energy and the camaraderie was amazing. My heart is so full thinking about this season ahead.
8:00–9:00 pm ... Practice time! We parents headed over to the rink to watch. It was an intense but awesome practice... and I loved seeing the coaches all on the same page with the same vision. At one point I looked at Nate and said, “Mason is having the best time”... because every time we caught a glimpse of his face he had the biggest smile. Later he confirmed it... he absolutely loves his team and had a blast.
8:15 pm ... While I watched practice I also worked on the prayer cards I’m making for the chemo waiting room.
9:30 pm ... This is where I failed at photos... but we left the rink and Mason rode home with me. We stopped for gas and Nate followed us so the boys could pump it for me. Nate then went home to take care of the animals and get some rest since 3:50 am comes fast... and Mason and I grabbed him some food (because he’s always starving after practice). Then it was finally home and time to wind down for bed.
As I looked back over this Tuesday, I couldn’t help but smile at how full yet simple it really was. It wasn’t anything glamorous or extraordinary... just the ordinary rhythms of work, family, hockey, pets, and little pockets of joy. But it’s in these ordinary days that I see God’s hand the clearest. He’s in the morning walks, the sunlight shining on His Word, the laughter at the rink, and even in the tired drives home. I’m reminded that every single day is a gift... and even the busiest ones are wrapped in His goodness. Here’s to holding onto the sweet moments tucked into the ordinary and praising Him in it all.
