This time of year feels like a gentle invitation from the Lord to stop rushing, to stop striving, and to simply be thankful. Not just thankful for the big, obvious blessings...but for the small, quiet ones too. The ones that slip by unnoticed when life feels hurried. The ones tucked inside ordinary days... the laughter around the dinner table, the sunsets that stop me in my tracks, the feeling of peace that comes from knowing God is near.
As the world starts to speed toward the holidays, I feel Him reminding me to slow down... to look up... to whisper thank You a little more often. Gratitude changes everything...not because our circumstances always change, but because our perspective does. When I look at life through the lens of thankfulness, I see His fingerprints everywhere.
So today, from my front porch to yours, I wanted to share a simple prayer...one for a thankful heart. Maybe it’ll speak to you the same way it’s been speaking to me.
Father, thank You for this season...for the stillness and beauty that fall brings. Thank You for the way You remind me, through changing leaves and quiet mornings, that life has its rhythms... and You are in every one of them.
Teach me to have a heart of gratitude...not just when life is easy or full, but even in the in-between. Help me to see Your goodness in the small moments... in the laughter of my family, in the warmth of my home, in the simple joy of another sunrise. Remind me that every breath, every blessing, every ordinary day is a gift from You.
When my mind starts to wander toward worry or comparison, gently pull me back to You. Fill my heart with contentment. Help me to live aware...not of what’s missing, but of all You’ve already provided.
And Lord, let thankfulness flow from me... not just as words, but as a way of life. Let my actions, my attitude, and my love for others reflect how deeply grateful I am for all You’ve done. May my home, my family, and even this little front porch be places where gratitude grows and grace abounds.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thankfulness doesn’t have to wait for Thanksgiving Day. It’s something we can live out daily...in every sunrise, every answered prayer, and even in the waiting seasons.
May we carry that kind of gratitude with us this week... the deep, quiet kind that can only come from knowing the One who gives us every good and perfect gift.
