My sweet Mason,
As Thanksgiving approaches and the world slows down just enough for us to look around and take it all in, my heart keeps landing on you. I’ve been reflecting a lot lately, and I keep coming back to how thankful I am for you... for the boy you’ve always been and the young man you’re becoming.
I still remember those early days on the ice, the first time you could barely stand in your skates, the way you’d wobble and grin, determined to get back up every time you fell. You had no idea where this journey would take you, and honestly, neither did we. But here we are... 2 years later... watching you skate with confidence, passion, and heart, and I’m still just as proud as I was that very first day.
Hockey has taught you so much more than stickhandling and shooting. It’s taught you discipline, teamwork, leadership, humility, and perseverance. It’s taught you what it means to show up even when things are hard... to give your best even when no one’s watching... to lift others up when they need it. But more than anything, it’s shown me something I already knew, that you have the kind of heart that shines both on and off the ice.
You’re kind, you’re steady, and you love big. You celebrate others’ victories as if they’re your own, and you handle disappointments with quiet strength. You care deeply, about your teammates, your coaches, your family, and your faith, and that’s something special, Mason. The world needs more of that.
There have been so many nights when I’ve sat in the stands, tears in my eyes, not just because of how you played, but because of who you are. Watching you out there is one of the greatest joys of my life... not because of the goals or the wins, but because of the grace, grit, and gratitude you carry with you every time you step onto the ice.
This Thanksgiving, I want you to know how thankful I am to be your mom. Thankful for the laughter you bring into our home, the light you bring into every room, and the way you remind me daily of God’s goodness. He has such a beautiful plan for your life, and I’m honored to watch it unfold.
No matter how old you get or how far this hockey journey takes you... you’ll always be that boy I cheered for in the coldest rinks, bundled up and beaming with pride. I’ll always be in the stands, praying for you, cheering for you, and thanking God for the gift of you.
Keep skating with heart. Keep leading with kindness. And above all else, keep your eyes on Jesus... because He’s the One who makes every step (and every stride) worth it.
I love you endlessly,
Mom 🤍
