{Weekend Wrap-up // Halloween, A Reunion, & Hockey}

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had the best weekend. We sure did...though, like always, it went by way too fast. Isn’t it funny how that happens? Even with both Nate and I off on Friday, it still felt like the weekend zipped right past us. We were originally supposed to have doctor appointments that morning, but our doctor had a family emergency and had to cancel. So instead, we decided to use the unexpected free day to get a few things done and spend some quality time together as a family. Here’s a little peek at what our weekend looked like…

Friday

We kicked off our day with lunch at one of our favorite little hometown burger joints, and as always, it did not disappoint.  There’s just something about small-town spots...they’re full of nostalgia, familiar faces, and those perfectly cooked burgers that never miss. I love that Mason loves our family traditions as much as we do.

After lunch, we stopped by to pick up Nate and Mason’s new glasses, and conveniently, the eye doctor happens to be right next door to a thrift store (and you know I can’t resist that!). Mason found a really nice cross necklace, and I scored a chocolate brown pair of booties and a red REI vest...all for $9! That kind of haul just makes my thrifting heart so happy. We decided to check out another thrift shop while we were out, and we struck gold again. Nate found a pair of Wranglers for $5, and I found a brand-new black and white cardigan for $4.

After our little treasure hunt, we headed to Nate’s parents’ house to help his mom set up her new iPhone. While we were there, we went out to check the progress on their mother-in-law quarters. They’re making such great progress, and I can’t wait to see it all finished. I also came home with a few sweet treasures...including some handmade bookmarks that Nate’s Great-Granny made years ago. You know I’ll cherish those forever!

Once we got back home, Nate worked on Mason’s car (replacing some fuses), and I did a few things around the house before we got ready for a Halloween party that evening. Mason wanted to take his car since he had decorated it for Halloween...and it turned out so cute!  The party was about an hour away at some of our friends’ house, and their neighborhood is perfect for trick-or-treating. There were so many families out and about...and honestly, just as many teens as kids. I love that! The moms all took the kids door-to-door while the dads stayed behind to pass out candy. When we got back, we had pizza, wings, and way too many treats before settling in to chat and laugh the rest of the night away. It was one of those evenings that just fills your cup...good friends, good food, and so many memories made.

Saturday

Saturday was a special day, our dating anniversary!  Twenty-nine years ago, Nate asked me to be his girlfriend… and I said yes. (Best yes ever!) We didn’t do anything fancy to celebrate...just spent the day together doing things we love. We went to one of our friend’s kids’ baseball games that morning, popped into a few thrift stores (because of course), and grabbed lunch while we were out.

Later that afternoon, we headed home to regroup before I made a quick run to Hobby Lobby and Walmart. I was on the hunt for a new garland but didn’t find the one I had in mind. So, I picked up a few pretty picks instead and plan to DIY my own garland this week. I love a good craft project!

That evening, it was time to get ready for Nate’s 25-year high school reunion...how is that even possible?! The event was back in our hometown (about 40 minutes away), so we made a stop at our favorite little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant first.  The reunion had a great turnout, and it was so nice seeing everyone after so many years. I graduated the year before Nate, so I knew most of the crowd too. It was such a treat catching up with old friends, reminiscing, and laughing over high school memories. I know Nate really enjoyed himself.

Sunday

Sunday started bright and early with church. We were in line at 7 Brew grabbing drinks when my sister texted saying, “What do y’all want from 7 Brew? We’re already in line!” Talk about perfect timing!  So they grabbed drinks for all of us, and we headed to the early service together. Worship was incredible — it always is — and the message hit home.

After church, we made a quick stop at Tom Thumb for dog food and a prescription before heading home to change out of our church clothes. Nate tackled the yard and did some weed eating while I cleaned up around the house. Then it was time to get ready for Mason’s hockey game!

The team played an amazing game and won 5-1! They’re sitting in second place in the Gold Division right now, and I couldn’t be prouder of how hard they’ve worked this season. This team amazes me...their talent, grit, and heart just shine every time they hit the ice. After the game, Mason’s team stayed to review video for next week’s matchup, so Nate and I wandered back into the rink to watch the Varsity Bronze game. Mason joined his friends once their meeting wrapped up, and we stayed to cheer for a bit before heading home to unwind and get ready for a new week.

And that’s a wrap on our weekend! It was one of those full but fulfilling weekends that leave you tired in the best way. Between friends, family, and fall festivities, my heart is full. How was your weekend? Did you do any Halloween fun or fall activities? Do you still go traditional trick-or-treating, or do you prefer trunk-or-treats these days? I’d love to hear!

Until next time, friends… have a blessed week full of gratitude, cozy moments, and God’s goodness.
