Yesterday in my Thrifted Thursday post, I shared about a beautiful navy and white photo frame I scored for just $2.50...brand new, never used, and totally my style. The second I spotted it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. And today, I’m so excited to share that little DIY project with y’all!
This fun idea was actually inspired by my sweet friend Keri over at Life on Back Forty. She recently shared a pencil sketch of her home...something she created using a prompt from ChatGPT...and the moment I saw it, I knew that was what I wanted to make for my new thrifted frame. Even if ChatGPT terrifies me a little. It was simple, meaningful, and just the right touch of personal charm for our home.
So as soon as I got home, I got to work! I found a photo of our house that would work (it's only part of our home, but the main part. I wasn't too worried about having the garage doors in the photo), plugged the image into ChatGPT using the same style prompt Keri used (scroll down...I’ll share the exact prompt below!), and within moments, I had a digital pencil sketch that felt immediately made me smile.
I wanted it to have a clean, matte look...something that truly resembled a sketch rather than a shiny photograph...so I sent it off to Office Depot to be printed on matte cardstock. It was ready in under an hour (and for under $1), and y’all...it turned out perfect! I trimmed it down, popped it into my $2.50 thrifted frame, and instantly fell in love. The photos just don’t do it justice, but trust me when I say...this is one of the coolest little DIYs I’ve done in a while!
Here it is:
"Make my house into a pencil sketch. Only draw the house, make it just black and white. Remove the yard, driveway, sky and trees. Make the background and yard just white. Only draw the house in pencil. Do not change any of the structure of the house."

Adorable, right?
And of course, once I made the house sketch...I was hooked. It got my wheels turning. I thought, “Why not do one of our chicken coop too?” So I did...and y’all, it came out so precious! I just need to find the perfect frame for it, but I already know it’s going to be a new favorite piece of decor.

I love how personal and affordable this project turned out to be. The whole thing only cost me around $3.50. It would also make the sweetest gift...think: first homes, family farms, pet portraits, or even churches and special vacation spots.
Have you made anything like this using ChatGPT?
