It’s Wednesday… which means it’s time to link up for the Wednesday Hodgepodge! I love taking a pause midweek to reflect and share some light-hearted (and sometimes deep!) answers to the random questions of the week. Let’s dive right in...
Linking up with Joyce...
1. On July 29th, 1957, The Tonight Show premiered with Jack Paar as its host. This marked the beginning of the modern-day talk show. Do you watch any daytime or late-night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you more in the camp of 'who is Stephen Colbert'?
I’m definitely in the “who is Stephen Colbert?” camp… I had to Google him just to make sure I had the right person! I don’t really watch much TV at all, and when I do, it’s usually something on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime. I’ll sometimes put something on in the background while I work or tidy up the house, but talk shows have never really been my thing. Give me a peaceful worship playlist and a cozy blanket over celebrity interviews any day!
2. What’s the best part of your day?
It’s hard to pick just one best part of the day because I truly believe each part holds a special kind of magic. I love waking up each morning knowing it’s a fresh start...a new mercy-filled day. One of my favorite rituals is going outside barefoot to feel the earth under my feet while soaking in the sunshine… it’s my little moment of grounding. Watering my homegrown flowers is another peaceful part of my day that brings me so much joy. Then there’s time in the Word...which always fills my soul...and the time when the three of us are together again at the end of the day. Nate leaves for work super early (like 4am early!), so when we’re all reunited around 4:45pm, it feels extra sweet. And of course, watching Mason on the ice doing what he loves is such a highlight. Wrapping the day up falling asleep in Nate’s arms? Just the best. All these little moments make up such a full and beautiful life.
3. What’s something your generation does that you actually dislike?
I think one thing that stands out is the glorification of busyness. Somewhere along the way, being constantly on-the-go became a badge of honor—like if you weren’t exhausted or juggling a million things, then you weren’t doing enough. I've been guilty of this myself a time or two. But I’ve learned that rest is holy. Slowing down, creating margin, and actually being present with the people in front of you… that’s what matters most. Life isn’t meant to be rushed through...it’s meant to be lived, deeply and intentionally. So I try not to buy into the hustle culture and instead focus on rhythms that bring peace and purpose.
4. When you cook do you clean as you go, or clean it all up once you’re finished cooking? What’s the last thing you cooked/baked in your own kitchen?
I’m 100% a clean-as-you-go type of girl. I loathe doing dishes, and there’s something about a sink full of dirty ones that just overwhelms me to no end. So I try to stay on top of it as I cook. The last meal I made was one of Mason’s favorites...pork chops, corn on the cob, and mac and cheese. It’s a comfort meal for him and one that always makes my mama heart happy to prepare.
5. Sum up your July in ten words or less.
Travel adventures, thrift finds, family time, hockey, worship, pure joy.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I’m caught somewhere in that sweet in-between... still holding tight to the slow, sun-soaked days of summer, but also getting giddy at the thought of fall. Over the weekend, Nate mentioned something about OU football and I swear my heart did a little happy dance. Just the thought of crisp mornings, pumpkins on the porch, cozy crockpot meals, college football Saturdays, NHL hockey nights, and that unmistakable autumn breeze has me longing for the season ahead. Summer has been so good to us...but fall? Fall feels like home.
Thanks for joining me for another round of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. I always love pausing to reflect, and I hope this encourages you to look for the little joys in your everyday too. See you next week!
