This weekend felt like a sweet mix of slow and steady...the kind where you get some much-needed rest, but also manage to cross a few things off the list. My favorite kind. Even with the extra downtime, it still flew by in a blink. Why do weekends always do that? I don’t have many pictures to share from the past few days, but here’s a little look into what our weekend held...
Friday
We kicked things off at the rink (no surprise there)! Mason had another private lesson with his coach...that makes five days of ice time this week. Five! And honestly? He wouldn’t have it any other way. The kid is passionate, determined, and laser-focused on improving his game. All that hard work paid off because we found out he made the JV Silver team...the highest level of JV! This is only his second year on skates, and he’s now playing alongside kids who’ve been at it for 5-7+ years. To say we’re proud is an understatement. My heart just bursts thinking about it. I’m not one to wish away summer, but y’all...I’m counting down the days to hockey season...both for Mason and NHL. The off-season feels extra long this year!
To celebrate, we let Mason pick where to eat and he chose Chili’s. And of course, we ran into some friends there. It was a treat to get to see them. After dinner, we swung by Office Depot to pick up a print of my chicken coop sketch...I’ve got plans for that baby! Then we ended the night visiting with Nate’s parents for a bit.
Saturday
We slept in on Saturday morning and it felt so good. Like, stay snuggled under the covers kind of good. After a slow start, I knocked out a few house chores and finally got that chicken coop sketch in the navy frame I thrifted. It looks so perfect and makes me so happy every time I walk by!
Started a new book...Girls of Summer by Nancy Thayer...and I’m already sucked in. I just finished a book that was set on Nantucket and I was eager to read another book with the same setting. Needless to say, Nantucket is near the top of my bucketlist!!
Later that afternoon, we ran to town to grab a birthday gift, picked up some sweet teas during Chicken Express (it was happy hour - SCORE!!), and filled up the Jeep. Then it was time to celebrate Nate’s youngest brother’s birthday at his parents’ house. His dad smoked ribs and made all the fixings...corn on the cob, beans, baked potatoes, mac & cheese...the works! And his mama made a fruit pizza that tasted like summer in every bite. After dinner, we headed to Bahama Bucks for a little frozen treat before calling it a night. The boys ended the evening with Happy Gilmore 2 while I cozied up and finished the rest of my book.
Sunday mornings at home are some of my favorites. I watched church online and I took some time to journal and work through my Bible study.
Then it was off to the rink again for Mason’s summer playoff game. We were matched up against the toughest team in the league and ended up with a loss, but man, those kids played hard. They kept the other team from their usual 80+ shots on goal...and that’s saying something! We’re proud of their heart and hustle.
After the game, we grabbed lunch (and some dog food!) before heading home for some major productivity. We rearranged a few things in the living room, reworked a gallery wall using some of my favorite recent thrifted finds, deep cleaned our bedroom, sorted through drawers, and even tackled the never-ending shoe situation. Meanwhile, Nate mowed our two acres and knocked out a bunch of yard work. It felt so good to end the weekend feeling like the house had a little reset.
We wrapped up the day with a pizza (way later than usual) and hit the couch for some wind-down time. And just like that... the weekend was over.
It was one of those weekends that felt full in the best way...full of laughter, good food, accomplishments, and a whole lotta love. Already looking forward to the next one.
How was your weekend, friends? Did you rest, get things done, or a little bit of both? I hope it was full of joy!
