{Weekend Wrap-Up // A Sweet Reunion, Family time, Thrifting, and Some Hockey Fun}

Whew! What a full, fun, and heart-filled weekend we just had. It was one of those that makes your heart feel extra grateful for family, friendships, small wins, and sweet reunions. Let’s jump in...

Friday started out with a very special appointment, Mason’s 15-year well check. But this wasn’t just any check-up. This was one we had been looking forward to for months! Around this time last year, we got the devastating news that Mason’s longtime doctor was “retiring” (a story we’ve since learned wasn’t entirely the full truth) and we weren’t able to get in with her before she left the clinic. It truly crushed us. She’s been Mason’s doctor since he was a baby, and it felt like losing a part of our village.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago, I was chatting with a friend, and she casually mentioned her son seeing that doctor. I was like... hold up, what? Where is she practicing?! As soon as she told me, I picked up the phone and got Mason scheduled! She was booked a couple months out (of course), but we snagged an appointment and have been counting down ever since.

When Dr. Sweet walked into the room and saw Mason, she literally grabbed her heart and said, “MY Mason!!!” Cue the waterworks. She wrapped us in the biggest hugs and we were all just so happy to be together again. She’s now working at a brand-new facility that’s only five miles from our house... a huge upgrade from the 25+ minute drive to her old clinic. The new staff was incredible… so kind and welcoming. And to top it off, Dr. Sweet gave Mason an A+ and hugged me again on the way out, saying, “May the Lord bless and keep you.” I told Nate, “You can just tell how happy she is at this new place. That makes my heart so, so happy.”

Mason and I made a quick thrift store stop to drop off donations… and of course, I had to run in real quick. I scored six fun finds for only $11! I’ll share more on those for Thrifted Thursdaystay tuned!

Next up: free Slurpee time! Or so we thought. Turns out, we were total rookies and didn’t realize you had to ask for a special cup behind the counter. We just grabbed the smallest size and filled it up like it was 2010. The cashier kindly explained the process, but she still let us have them for free and was just so sweet about it.

That evening, Nate and I ran by Office Depot to grab some prints I ordered, then picked up supper from Dairy Queen. We spent the rest of the evening outside...I piddled in my flowers and tried to catch the sunset (you know I can’t resist a Texas sunset), while Nate trimmed back the crape myrtle. The perfect, simple Friday night.

Saturday was a real treat… we actually slept in. Like truly, deeply, slept in. I woke up at 7 and said nope. Again at 9… still nope. And finally at 10:30, I decided to get up. That’s a rarity for me these days, especially with the way my tinnitus has been lately. It felt so good to rest.

We spent the morning doing little things around the house and then walked over to Nate’s parents’ place. Nate helped his dad work on the side-by-side while I visited with his mama. We chatted all about our upcoming beach trip and made some plans for meals, snacks, and what to pack.

At one point, Nate noticed our neighbors (or rather, a hired crew working to get the lawn ready for a house going on the market) struggling to mow really tall grass with a push mower. Nate being Nate, offered to help with his zero-turn and made their day. They were so grateful...it would have taken them hours to mow that acre and a half.

That evening, Mason and I headed to a super cool event at the rink: the Goalie Content Creator Game (link here). Some of our JV kids worked the event, and since Mason was part of that group, we got to attend the VIP meet-and-greet with all the hockey creators. These are former players who now coach, create content, run camps, and more...and many of them Mason has followed for years. It was such a cool experience! The game itself was a blast, and I loved getting to hang out in the VIP area while Mason worked. All players wore goalie gear for the entirety of the game, making it so interesting. Nate was able to join us once the game got going and I was glad to have him there. We stayed until around 9:30 pm, then made our way home in the middle of some storms rolling through. Thankfully, we made it home safe and sound.

You can see my video from the game, here

Sunday was hockey day!
I woke up wide awake before 8 (go figure) and spent some quiet time reading in bed. I stepped outside to water all my flowers and garden… only to find that God had already taken care of it.  Grateful for the rain!

We got ready and headed to Mason’s JV game...a match against our other JV team at the rink. We played them the weekend before July 4th and won, so you can imagine how pumped the kids (and parents) were for the rematch. And y’all… we dominated! Final score was 5-0! Mason started at center and played one of his best games yet. I was so proud of him! I love how both teams came together after and to pray together.

Afterward, we grabbed a late lunch with Nate’s parents and his aunt, then treated ourselves to some Bahama Bucks. We came home and spent a little time outside watching Mason shoot on his goal before crashing on the couch for the evening. It felt good to just slow down and soak it all in.

And that’s a wrap on our weekend!

How was yours? I hope it was full of joy, peace, and moments that made your heart smile.
