{From the Front Porch // The Mountains & The Maker}

Written on 7/7/2025

We recently spent a week in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and I’m still in awe of the beauty we witnessed. Every time I looked at the mountains…whether it was driving down a winding road, sitting in a parking lot, or driving through the Air Force Academy…I found myself whispering, “Wow, God.”

He created that. Towering rock faces, snow-dusted summits, skies that stretched forever. It was impossible not to stop and marvel at His handiwork.

In Genesis 1, it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” And standing there in the presence of such majesty, I was reminded that He didn’t just create the mountains to be beautiful…He created them to point us to Him. To remind us of His power, His creativity, His glory.

Those mountains don’t move. They don’t bend or break. They stand tall, firm, and unmoved by time or weather. And it hit me: That’s our God. Steady. Strong. Unshakable. And when life feels chaotic or uncertain, we can look to Him…the same way I looked at those peaks all week…and know He is bigger than anything we face.

Psalm 121:1-2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

What a gift that He gives us beauty to enjoy…but even more than that, what a gift that He gives us Himself.

If you’re feeling weary today, I encourage you to lift your eyes. Maybe not to the Colorado Rockies, but to the sky above your own porch. To the trees in your backyard. To the colors of the sunset. To the quiet reminder that the One who created all of it loves you deeply and personally.

He is big. He is near. And He is so, so good.
