{What We're Reading // Vol. 4}

We're back for our fourth edition of "What We're Reading"! Thank you to all you that have linked up with us thus far. It's been fun to see what everyone else is reading. My book list is now never ending and I love it. I've recently rekindled my love for reading. Here is a look at what we are reading this month.

Crystal:

I mentioned above that I rekindled my love for reading...well, that happened during our Spring Break trip. We did lots of driving, so I had plenty of time to read. I downloaded several books to my Kindle app. I finished one book in just a couple of hours and started a second. Now I can't get enough reading. If only I had more free time...

Anyhow, the first book I read was...

Good As Gone
Anna’s daughter Julie was kidnapped from her own bedroom when she was thirteen years old, while Anna slept just downstairs, unaware that her daughter was being ripped away from her. For eight years, she has lived with the guilt and the void in her family, hoping against hope that Julie is still alive. And then one night, the doorbell rings. A young woman who appears to be Julie is finally, miraculously, home safe. Anna and the rest of the family are thrilled, but soon Anna begins to see holes in Julie’s story. When she is contacted by a former detective turned private eye, she is forced to wonder if this young woman is even her daughter at all. And if she isn’t Julie, what is it that she wants?

It was a suspenseful and interesting read, but some parts of the book were a little disturbing. But, with that being said, I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what happened and if it was really Julie that had returned!

Everything We Keep
A luminous debut with unexpected twists, Everything We Keep explores the devastation of loss, the euphoria of finding love again, and the pulse-racing repercussions of discovering the truth about the ones we hold dear and the lengths they will go to protect us.
Sous chef Aimee Tierney has the perfect recipe for the perfect life: marry her childhood sweetheart, raise a family, and buy out her parents’ restaurant. But when her fiancé, James Donato, vanishes in a boating accident, her well-baked future is swept out to sea. Instead of walking down the aisle on their wedding day, Aimee is at James’s funeral—a funeral that leaves her more unsettled than at peace.
As Aimee struggles to reconstruct her life, she delves deeper into James’s disappearance. What she uncovers is an ocean of secrets that make her question everything about the life they built together. And just below the surface is a truth that may set Aimee free…or shatter her forever.

I enjoyed this book as well! The sequel, Everything We Left Behind comes out in July and I can't wait. This book is written from the husband's perspective.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette:
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle--and people in general--has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.

To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence--creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

I just started this book so I really can't say if I love it or not yet.

Mason:
We are still reading all of our Easter books and mixing in a few others here and there. We are also still working through our devotion and Jesus Calling Bible stories.

  5. My Amazon wishlist is getting too out of control and it's upsetting. I want to buy all the books! But I refuse until I read all the unread ones I already own.

  6. I really enjoyed Everything We Keep and now I have to add Everything We Lost to my list! Where 'd You Go, Bernadette was good but I wasn't crazy about it. I just finished The Handmaids Tale which was fantastic and now just started The Orphan Train.
