Scripture for the Busy Mama

Truth is, I stay tired. I’ve always been borderline-anemic and now have Hypothyroidism which basically gives me no chance at being the energizer bunny that us moms sometimes need to be. No matter what medication or how many vitamins I take I am still tired. 

Mason is not a morning person. The boy likes his sleep and he comes by it honestly. I have to work extra hard in the mornings to get him up and going. It's like putting in a full day's work just in those couple of morning hours and leaves me feeling so tired and defeated. And then I still have a full work day ahead of me. And because I work from home full time I also feel obligated to all of those household chores that I neglect in the evenings. Then it’s time to pick up Mason and back to work for an hour or two before it’s time for the evening chores and responsibilities. 

And in between the school and the work and church and the mundane every day things there is still parenting to be done. I try to do the very best that I can and let God fill in those gaps. Grace upon grace upon grace echos in my head constantly.

Lately I have found myself lying in bed going over the day to make sure I didn’t forget or miss anything and just feeling completely overwhelmed and drained. Then this leads me to think about my actions throughout the day and if me being haggard had any affect on the way I treated Mason or Nathan. They deserve the best of me, always. And acting out through my tiredness certainly does not bring glory to God. And this is when I turn to God whether that be through prayer or scripture. I always know that it will make me feel better and will give my weary soul a rest! Scripture refreshes and refines me. Below are some of the verses that I cling to when I am feeling too tired or busy.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 62:5-6
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.

Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

His mercies are new every morning. And all the mamas said "Amen!"

Isn't it amazing how motherhood makes you quickly realize that you can't do it all on your own? And that you need Jesus more than ever? May I never forget that being a mother is one of the greatest blessings on earth no matter how tired I may get. The demands of being a mother are plenty, but the rewards are so much more. And though I am far from perfect may I always point Mason to a perfect Jesus.

  1. I'm borderline anemic too and have something called Beta Thalassemia Minor. This was realized when I was pregnant with Cam and my iron was super low, or so they thought. Really it's my hemaglobin playing games. I don't feel like I have low energy or am super tired, but my hematologist says that if a "normal" person was to function on my hemaglobin count they would really struggle. It's my normal and don't know any different. It's crazy! My kids struggle getting up on preschool mornings. I know it's gonna be pretty awful when Cam starts school and I have to wake him up really early. Big hugs to you momma!

  5. All I can say is yes! yes! yes! I often feel so overworked at the end of the day. I know that you have medical conditions that hinder your energy and I wish there was a way to fix that. I'll be praying for you. I hope that this season ends and that a new one, filled with sunny days and time together along with an extra boost of energy comes your way, quick!
