{Coastal Trip Recap // Days 3 & 4}

More Saltwater, Sunsets & Sweet Moments

There’s just something about waking up at the beach. It’s like your soul starts the day already at peace. This trip to the coast was nothing short of wonderful...the kind that fills your heart and makes you so thankful for slow days, salty air, and family time. We didn’t do a whole lot outside of the house, and honestly? That was the best part. Just being together, relaxing by the water, and soaking up the sunshine felt like exactly what we all needed. Here’s a little peek into Days 3 & 4 of our trip…

Day 3 – Friday, July 18th

We slept in again (praise be!), though not quite as late thanks to the littles and their early bird energy. I got up and got ready for the day, then grabbed my Bible and headed downstairs while the rest of the crew was still enjoying breakfast upstairs. I’m not much of a breakfast eater, so I skipped it and took advantage of the peaceful morning to have my quiet time with Jesus.

I’ve been going through a study on the She Reads Truth app about people of the New Testament starting with Jesus, of course. Sitting out by the water, Bible in hand, breeze blowing, and birds chirping... it was the most peaceful way to start the day. My heart needed that stillness.

Before long, the rest of the family made their way downstairs and we all gathered for another round of pool time. By some miracle, Mason was up early and ready to go...and he had an idea. He asked if we could go to Galveston for the day, so we loaded up and headed that way.

As soon as we arrived... it started pouring. So typical, right? But we made the most of it...drove the seawall, popped into a few beach shops, and just enjoyed being out together. Afterward, we headed toward Surfside Beach where the rest of the family was hanging out. Nate, Mason, and I weren’t in swimwear or beach-ready clothes, but we still joined in for a bit of sandy fun.

We attempted those trendy “heart in the sand” photos, but digging a proper heart shape proved to be harder than it looks. So instead, we made a big hole...and honestly, it came out just as cute. Memories made either way!

On the way back to the beach house, we made a quick stop at Surfin’ Ritas for daiquiris and snow cones...the perfect little treat. Then it was back to the house for a casual lunch and more time in the pool. Us girls whipped up some simple but yummy chicken salad sandwiches, chips, and dips and brought it all out to the poolside for a laid-back lunch. The rest of the evening was spent doing more of our favorite things...swimming, fishing, reading, and soaking in another stunning sunset over the water.

We capped off the night with a few rounds of UNO and more VR fun for Mason and his grandparents, cousins, and uncle. Day 3 was full, fun, and oh-so-sweet.

Day 4 – Saturday, July 19th

Day 4 started just the way I love it...quiet time with my Bible outside by the water. While everyone else stayed upstairs enjoying breakfast, I was downstairs soaking up some stillness and working through the next part of my study on people of the New Testament. I can’t tell you how good it felt to slow down and spend time with the Lord in such a beautiful place.

Eventually everyone trickled down and the day turned into another pool & fishing day. The girls continued reading (and laughing), and at one point Nate’s mom jokingly called us the Beach Book Club...not wrong! It was one of those days where no one was in a rush to do anything… we just floated through the day enjoying the sunshine, water, and each other.

That afternoon, we decided to whip up a few charcuterie boards. We made do with whatever we had on hand...not the fanciest serving dishes, but we made it work. We ended up with quite the little spread! It was fun to pull it all together and snack outside in true vacation fashion.

Later that evening, Nate grilled sausage and corn on the grill while we put together some pasta salad and mac & cheese inside. Simple, but so delicious! It was a cozy, relaxed evening filled with laughter, card games, and one of our favorites...The Chameleon. We played it last time we stayed in Broken Bow and had so much fun, so we brought it along for this trip too. It did not disappoint!

Sunday came way too fast, as it always does. We slowly packed up and got everything ready to go...but not before recreating one of our favorite family photos from our last visit to this same house back in 2020. I’ll be sure to share both the 2020 and 2025 versions below because those side-by-side memories? They are the best.

2020 vs 2025:

This trip was everything I hoped for and more. We spent most of our time right at the house...relaxing by the pool, fishing off the dock, reading good books, eating good food, and enjoying each other’s company. The salty air and warm sunshine were just what we needed. My heart is full, and I’m already dreaming of the next time we’ll be back.
