{Weekend Wrap-Up // Hockey, Family, and Fall Fun}

Hi friends! Life has been so full lately that I feel like I’ve barely had a moment to catch my breath... but I’ve missed sharing in this space, so I’m playing a little catch-up here. Let’s start with a weekend wrap-up! I’m actually kicking things off on Thursday because that’s when it felt like our weekend officially began.

Thursday – Hockey, Nachos, and the Dallas Stars

We kicked off the weekend with our first Dallas Stars game of the season! We had four tickets, so Mason invited his best friend, Anders, to join us. The excitement started before we even stepped inside, the boys played a little street hockey and took a few shots, then explored the brand-new team store they added outside the arena. Once inside, we grabbed some food before puck drop and even ran into our neighbor (who’s a police officer and happened to be working that night) right in our section!

The boys headed down to the glass to watch warmups up close...their favorite part of any game. It was such a fun, high-energy night, full of cheering, laughter, and overpriced nachos. Unfortunately, the Stars lost in overtime (womp womp), but it was still such a memorable night and a great way to kick off hockey season!

Friday – The Annual Halloween Skate

Friday night was one of our favorite traditions, our annual Halloween Skate during Mason’s usual Friday night practice. This is the one night the kids get to wear costumes on the ice, and they never disappoint! Our teams went all out this year. There were bananas, gorillas, a hippo in a tutu, an inflatable leprechaun, ninja turtles, traffic cones, a hockey player riding an elf’s shoulders (that was Mason!), a lunchable, and so many more hilarious and creative costumes.

It’s one of those nights that reminds me why I love this hockey community so much. There’s laughter everywhere, parents snapping pictures from the stands, and kids skating around grinning from ear to ear. It’s such a fun and joy-filled night.

Saturday – Fall Family Night

Saturday started slow and cozy. I actually slept in until 9 (which never happens!) before grabbing my grocery delivery order. I put everything away and enjoyed a little quiet time on the couch in my pajamas...coffee in hand, football on the TV, and nowhere to rush off to.

That evening, we headed to Nate’s parents’ house for our annual fall family night, one of my favorite nights of the year. Nate and I made a big pot of chili and some festive drinks, one sister-in-law brought a jack-o-lantern pizza and themed treats for the kids, another made mummy hotdogs, and Nate’s mom made queso and her delicious grape salad. The food was amazing...so many cozy fall flavors!

After dinner, the kids painted pumpkins (and of course, made them say "six-seven" — ha!). Once the rain cleared, we all moved outside. We visited with the donkeys, spotted a vibrant double rainbow, watched a stunning sunset, started a fire, roasted s’mores, and ended the night watching college football under the awning. It was one of those simple, perfect nights that fills your heart right up.

Sunday – Rest and Recovery

Sunday morning, I had every intention of getting up for church, but I just wasn’t feeling great. So instead, I took some medicine, soaked in a hot bath, and rested on the couch until it was time to head to Mason’s game.

The game itself was amazing...Mason’s team won 14–0, and he had his best game of the season! The whole team played so well; it was one of those proud hockey-mom moments that makes all the early mornings and late nights worth it. Afterward, we grabbed a quick lunch before heading home to catch the Cowboys game.

Nate and Mason spent the afternoon shooting goals outside and practicing driving while I accidentally fell asleep on the couch for almost an hour and a half. I woke up feeling groggy and still not great, so we took it easy the rest of the night...just relaxing, watching football & hockey, and soaking in the last bit of weekend peace before Monday rolled around.

It was such a wonderful weekend…full of laughter, family, hockey, and little moments that make me so grateful for this season of life. But wow, it flew by way too fast! Honestly, this whole month has. I keep wishing time would slow down just a little so we could savor these fall evenings, cozy nights, and all the joy tucked into them.

Here’s to soaking up every bit of this beautiful season while it’s here. 🍂
