{Wednesday Hodgepodge // Fall Days and Christmas Dreams}

Happy Wednesday, friends! I pray you’re having the best week. The weather has finally started to cool off here in Texas and it has me in the absolute best mood. It finally feels like fall, the kind of crisp mornings and breezy evenings that make you want to sit on the porch with a blanket, a Fizz, and your favorite playlist. We’ve had a few days in the 70s and even the 60s, and I’m soaking in every single one of them.

I may have joked about putting up my Christmas dĂ©cor already... okay, maybe only halfway joked. I promise I’ll wait until Saturday (ha!), but I’m definitely listening to Christmas music as I type this post. There’s just something about those familiar songs that instantly bring joy and peace. Anyhow, it’s time for another round of Wednesday Hodgepodge, one of my favorite weekly link-ups. Let’s jump right in!

1. Are you a risk taker? To what degree?

Not even a little bit! I am not a risk taker in any sense of the word...never have been, probably never will be. I’m very much the “play it safe” type and have made peace with that over the years. My husband, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He’s adventurous, spontaneous, and always dreaming up big ideas. Sometimes I feel bad when he comes to me with a new business plan or idea and my first instinct isn’t “Go for it!” but rather “Let’s think this through a bit more…” Thankfully, he never moves forward with something I’m not fully on board with, which I appreciate.

I think God just wired me this way...cautious, steady, and thoughtful...and I try to see it as a strength instead of a weakness. I’ve never been one to gamble, and that even extends to our trips to Vegas (we’ve been three times and I’ve never been one to sit at a slot machine). Thankfully, there’s so much more to do and see there than gamble!

2. What’s your favorite candy? Would you say you have a sweet tooth?

Oh, I absolutely have a sweet tooth... but I think it’s a seasonal one! In the fall, I can’t resist candy corn, caramel everything, and the nostalgic trick-or-treat candies that remind me of childhood. When Christmas rolls around, I’m all about peppermint bark, chocolate-covered cherries, candy canes, and the old-fashioned hard candies my Granny used to keep out. In the summer, I lean toward fruity and refreshing...anything light and bright that pairs with the Texas heat. Basically, my sweet tooth just likes to match the season I’m in.

3. Somewhere you’ve been recently that had you feeling ‘like a kid in a candy store’?

That’s an easy one... any thrift store I walk into! There’s something about the thrill of the hunt that never gets old. Every aisle holds a little mystery...will I find a vintage frame, a pretty basket, a worn Bible, or something I can upcycle into a DIY project? It’s like a treasure hunt every single time, and I love that feeling. I’ve actually turned my thrifting adventures into a blog series called Thrifted Thursdays, where I share my favorite finds and how I give them new life. If you love a good before-and-after or just the joy of the hunt, it’s definitely a fun series to follow!

4. What do you think is the most effective way to make a positive change in the world?

I really believe it starts with being the positive change we want to see. Live with kindness, lead by example, and let others see the light of Jesus shining through how we treat people. Pray for change. Share the Gospel. Encourage instead of criticize. And remember that while we’re in this world, we’re not of this world...so our lives should reflect something different, something holy. Even the smallest acts of grace can ripple out in ways we may never fully see.

5. Do you like surprises?

Absolutely not. I’ve never liked surprises, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. If I’m surprised in front of a big group of people, I’ll probably cry...not out of ungratefulness, but because I just don’t like having all eyes on me. I’d so much rather know what’s coming so I can prepare my heart (and maybe my makeup)! I'm just not one for being the center of attention.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I know I was joking (a little) earlier about putting up my Christmas dĂ©cor, but now I’m genuinely curious... when do you usually decorate for Christmas? Have you always stuck to the same tradition each year, or does it depend on what life looks like?

We used to wait until the Friday after Thanksgiving, mostly because we always got a real tree. They wouldn’t start selling them until late November, and if you got one too early, it would dry out long before Christmas Day. But lately, I’ve been so tempted to decorate earlier. I just love the season...the twinkle lights, the garland and holly, the nostalgic ornaments that tell our family’s story. It brings me so much joy, and since we usually leave for family vacation right after Christmas, I like to enjoy the dĂ©cor as long as possible. So, I might just be one of those “decorate before Thanksgiving” people now… and I’m perfectly okay with that!

And that’s a wrap on this week’s Wednesday Hodgepodge! As always, a big thank you to Joyce for hosting such a fun link-up each week — I always love reading everyone’s answers and getting a little glimpse into their worlds. I’m off to pour another cup of coffee (or maybe grab a Fizz!) and enjoy this cool Texas morning. Wishing you all a wonderful rest of your week, full of peace, gratitude, and cozy fall moments
