{From the Front Porch // Finding God in the Changing Seasons}

There’s something about sitting on the front porch this time of year that feels sacred. The air is just beginning to shift... mornings are cooler, evenings come a little quicker, and the trees whisper that change is near. Fall in Texas may not always show up on the calendar’s exact date, but you can feel it in your bones when it finally does. And in those first hints of autumn, I’m reminded that God is present in every changing season of life.

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 3 that “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Just like the leaves know when to turn and the air knows when to cool, our lives follow rhythms and seasons designed by the Lord. Some seasons are bright and joyful, bursting with life like spring... others are steady and growing like summer... some are marked by change and letting go, like fall... and some are quiet and still like winter. Each one has its purpose, and in each one, God is faithful.

As I step into this new fall season, I want to carry eyes wide open to see His fingerprints. In the golden sunsets that paint the sky. In the crunch of leaves underfoot on a morning walk. In the laughter at the hockey rink. In the warmth of a pumpkin candle burning while chili simmers on the stove. Every small detail whispers of His creativity, His provision, and His love for us.

Fall is also a season of slowing down... of reflection and gratitude. Just as the trees release their leaves, I find myself asking what the Lord might be calling me to release in this season. Fear? Control? Worry about the future? The trees remind me that letting go isn’t the end...it’s the beginning of renewal.

From my porch, I see a God who never changes even as the seasons do. His love is constant, His promises sure, and His presence steady. And that truth allows me to embrace the beauty of fall with open hands and a grateful heart.

So as the season shifts, my prayer is that we would all find God in the small, ordinary moments of autumn. May we slow down enough to see His goodness in the changing colors, to thank Him for both the big and small blessings, and to trust Him with whatever we may need to lay down in this season.

From my front porch to yours... may you always feel the nearness of God, the beauty in the ordinary, and joy in the little things... happy fall, friends. 🍂
