{Waxahachie Wednesday // Fall Drives Around Waxahachie}

One of my very favorite things to do in the fall is simply… go for a drive. There’s something about the combination of cooler air, wide-open skies, and cozy backroads that makes autumn in Texas feel so special. And here in Waxahachie, we’re blessed with some of the prettiest country drives...complete with barns, fields, farm animals, and sunsets that will take your breath away.

For this week’s Waxahachie Wednesday, I wanted to share a guide to some of the best fall drives around Waxahachie. Whether you’re heading out just to clear your mind, or you’re looking for those perfect golden-hour photo spots, these roads deliver all the cozy, small-town vibes.

FM 66 Toward Maypearl

This drive takes you west out of Waxahachie and straight into rolling farmland and wide-open skies. Along the way, you’ll pass red barns, cattle grazing, and maybe even catch sight of some deer at dusk. Perfect for a slow, scenic Sunday drive.

FM 55 South to Avalon

This route winds through cotton fields and farmland, with plenty of rustic barns dotting the horizon. In the fall, when the fields are harvested and the sunsets are fiery, it feels quintessentially Texan.

Old Italy Road

If you’re craving backroads charm, Old Italy Road is the spot. Curving lanes, old fences, and fields lined with hay bales make it such a cozy fall drive. Bonus points: stop in Italy, TX, for a slice of pie or a small-town photo op.

Down Buena Vista & Ennis Backroads

Take Buena Vista Road and wind your way toward Ennis. You’ll find rolling hills, farmhouses, and wide stretches of road framed by trees. In the fall, the views glow under golden light.

Lake Waxahachie Loop

A drive around Lake Waxahachie offers peaceful water views and plenty of spots to pull over for a picnic or just sit and watch the sun go down. The reflections in the fall evenings are stunning.

 Tips for Enjoying Fall Drives

  • Golden Hour is Best: Go about an hour before sunset to see the skies light up.

  • Pack Snacks or Sweet Tea: A little road trip always calls for treats.

  • Bring Your Camera: Between barns, fences, and wide-open skies, you’ll want to capture it all.

  • Windows Down: When the weather finally cools, nothing beats driving with the breeze blowing in.

Fall in Waxahachie isn’t just about festivals and football, it’s also about slowing down and enjoying the beauty that surrounds us every day. These backroads and country lanes are more than just drives; they’re reminders of God’s handiwork, painted across the wide Texas sky.

So next time you’ve got an open evening or Sunday afternoon, hop in the car, roll the windows down, and take one of these fall drives. I promise, your soul will thank you. 🍂✨
