{Annual Polar Express weekend // Grinch's Lair}

 Saturday is always the biggest, most exciting day of our Polar Express weekend—and it all kicks off with one of our favorite stops: the Grinch’s Lair!

This quirky little spot has become a beloved part of our Christmas tradition, and we’re so thankful we stumbled upon it when Mason was just three or four years old. Back then, it was just something fun we thought we’d try, but it quickly became something much more meaningful. Now, visiting the Lair each year feels a bit like coming home—it’s familiar, it’s festive, and it’s filled with memories.

Over the years, we’ve grown close with the sweet owners who pour so much love and creativity into making the experience special. They remember us each year, and we always look forward to catching up with them. There’s something really heartwarming about that small-town connection—like we’re part of their story now, too.

And speaking of stories, Mason has actually become a bit of a local Christmas celebrity! For several years now, his photo has been used in their marketing materials, and it always makes us smile. He was so little in that picture—wide-eyed, full of wonder, and wearing the biggest grin. I absolutely love seeing that photo year after year and reflecting on how much he’s grown since then. It’s truly one of my favorite snapshots of him ever.

What makes it even more special now is that we get to share this Grinchy tradition with even more members of the family. Watching the younger generation light up the same way Mason did all those years ago—it just melts my heart. It’s such a beautiful, full-circle moment to see the joy being passed down, one festive visit at a time.

So while Saturday may be our busiest day of the weekend, it’s also one of the most meaningful. It’s a reminder of how traditions grow and evolve, and how the little things—like a silly green Grinch in a small-town lair—can leave the biggest imprint on our hearts.

After the Lair, we took the kids to the park to run off some energy! It's such a fun little park that we visit each time we are in town.
