This past weekend was our annual Polar Express Weekend, and it was every bit as magical as always! This tradition is one of my very favorite parts of the Christmas season. It’s one of those weekends where we slow down, soak in the holiday spirit, and make memories together as a family.
Each year, we pack up and head out for a few days of camping, exploring, and festive fun. The highlight, of course, is riding the magical Polar Express, but the entire weekend is filled with little moments that make it so special. From visiting the Grinch’s Lair (always a hit with the kids!) to enjoying some of the best Mexican food you can find, it’s a trip we look forward to all year long.
This year, we arrived in Palestine a bit earlier than usual on Friday, which gave us some extra time to really enjoy the town. We spent the afternoon wandering around and popping into some of our favorite spots—those little local gems that feel like tradition in themselves now. We also tried a couple of new places, which is always fun and adds a fresh twist to the trip.
That evening, we found ourselves at a cozy little saloon in town where we kicked back, relaxed, and just enjoyed being together. And as night fell, the whole town seemed to come alive in a different way. Twinkling lights lined the streets, storefronts were decked out in festive decor, and carols played softly in the background. It truly felt like we had stepped into the middle of a Hallmark Christmas movie—peaceful, heartwarming, and full of that nostalgic holiday magic.
There’s just something about this tradition that fills my heart. The laughter, the chilly air, the glow of Christmas lights, and the look on the kids’ faces when the Polar Express pulls up—it’s pure joy. I’m so grateful for weekends like this and for the memories we’re creating year after year.
