{Tuesday Talk // Selah}

Selah
Stop.
Pause and praise.
Be still and know.
Wait, rest, worship.

Friday afternoon I was reading and came across the word Selah. I've seen it many times before and was well aware of the Christian band named Selah. Yet, I wasn't sure of the meaning of the actual word. So I began to research a bit on the word and found that in essence it means to just slow down and rest in Jesus.

Fast forward a few hours to the 2017 Winter Retreat for my church. Our Youth Minister {and friend} had asked me to come to the retreat and take some pictures. {One of my goals in being bold for Jesus was to be confident in myself when asked to take pictures for church events so I agreed.} I knew that the name of the retreat was "Chill", but I didn't have any clue what the theme of the weekend was going to be. Our Youth Minister lead the session that evening after supper and announced the theme of the retreat and what he wanted the youth to focus on...

Wait, what? Coincidence? Nope! It was the Lord preparing me for the night and for the weekend. He was giving me a sweet preview of what was to come.

I needed this weekend more than I even knew. I needed to be reminded how important it is to just slow down and be present. To rest in Him. To praise Him. To spend intimate time with Him and in His word. To inhale the goodness of Jesus and to exhale all of those worries, fears and doubts. I need to lay down my phone and pick up my bible more. I need to spend more time praising Him and thanking him for all of the blessings in my life.

I just need to slow down

This weekend was good for my soul. Convicting. But needed. And oh so good. Not only did I hear great messages by a couple of leaders in our church, I was able to cultivate relationships with friends from church. I was able to witness the Lord working in the lives of our youth. I got to see random acts of kindness being done in our community. I got to be a part of blessing members of our church with small acts of kindness. I got to see the look on the face of one of our shut-ins {member that is no longer able to come to church} when we came to visit. I got to witness our Children's Minister pray with a young lady at a gas station. I got to see and taste the goodness of Jesus. It was a weekend I will never forget.

And though I was invited to take pictures it was so much more than that to me. I didn't take as many pictures as I would have liked, but I am at peace with that. I was present. I was where God wanted and needed me to be.

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

Acts 17:26 (NIV)
