Yesterday I was reading my sweet friend Whitney's Spring Fun post and saw that she had put on her list "make a Leprechaun trap". I was intrigued! So I asked her a bit about it and by her recommendation started searching Pinterest. I searched Leprechaun Trap and so many options came up! I let Mason choose which one he liked best since I wanted his help with the project. He excitedly chose this one.
We started gathering up all of the materials we had on hand that we could use. Luckily we had a box left over from a recent fundraiser because none of our collected shoe boxes would have worked. I found some St Patty's Day images and combined them all onto one 8x10 in PicMonkey and then printed them.
Materials:
A box
Construction paper or card stock
Popsicle Sticks
Markers
Hot Glue Gun/Glue sticks
Things to decorate your box
Straws
Scissors
Paper Towel roll
The first thing we did was cover our box with green construction paper. I did the hot gluing of the paper while Mason started coloring the popsicle sticks for our ladder. Then we added our Free Slide and Rainbow signs. I glued the little signs to colored straws and then glued the straws to our box. We wrapped our paper towel roll with yellow paper. Mason said it was kind of like gold and Leprechauns like gold so we went with it.
Then after all of that good coloring work Mason needed to take a break for some yogurt eating and some brain exercising....
He melts me and cracks me up all at the same time! I just adore this child.
Anyhow, we got back to work and made the ladder to our Leprechaun Trap with popsicle sticks. We embellished the top with some of Mason's gold mardi-gras style necklaces to draw in the leprechaun. Mason was so proud of our creation and has checked his trap no less than 95 times in the last hour.
We will have to do this next year! We've been talking about those sneaky little leprechauns & they may or may not have some tricks in store tonight. ;)
