{Our Love Story // Part 1 // How we met & started dating}

The other day I had a friend surprised that Nathan and I had started dating at the ages of 14 & 15 {going on 19 years this November} and then asked if I have ever shared our story here on the blog. And no, I sure haven't. Not on purpose, just never have. So here goes...

Nathan and I went to the same high school. He was a baseball player and I was a cheerleader and we had many mutual friends. I had known of him because he dated a fellow cheerleader of mine the year before...but i didn't know him.

One of my best friends & I were walking to the car one day after school and Nathan ran up and started walking beside my friend. She slowed down a bit to talk to him and I stayed a few steps ahead. He was whispering to her and she couldn't hear him and just kept saying "huh? what?". I had heard him and couldn't help but giggle. So I turned around and said, "Would you like my phone number?" {repeating what he was trying to ask my friend} I was sure I embarrassed him! His face was bright red, but he still said yes. So I gave it to him.

And the rest is history...haha...

Anyhow, I wasn't home for 10 minutes maybe and my phone was ringing. I didn't even think about it being Nathan. But it was. And he asked for Holly...not me. Haha! I told him that she wasn't there and asked if he had tried her house. He said no. But somehow we kept talking and got lost in conversation. An hour or two later I realized what time it was and that I had to leave to go cheer at a basketball game. I was bummed because I didn't want to get off the phone. But, Nathan showed up at he game and I was a happy, happy girl!

Before we knew it our worlds had collided and we were together almost every single day. Mostly in a group. Again, we had a lot of mutual friends. He was becoming one of my best friends and I cared about him a lot. It was nearing homecoming and I was asked to go with one of Nate's friends and he ended up asking one of my girlfriends. She was the popular girl at school that everyone wanted to date. I could see that Nate was excited that she was going to homecoming with him. And that hurt me. I wasn't sure why, since we were only friends and all. It was all new feelings and rattled my brain.

But...before homecoming approached we started falling for each other. We didn't share our feelings with each other for a while. I think we were both worried about hurting the other people we were 'talking' to. That all changed the minute I heard my friend saying that she would never date Nathan and that he wasn't her type. He was my best friend {and so was she...thin line there}, but I told him before he got too invested in her. And lets be honest...because I liked him and wanted him for myself!! And once Nathan knew that I didn't want to date his friend he started letting me know he cared for me. We 'secretly' started talking as more than friends, but wanted to wait until after homecoming to make it official. You know...since we already had other dates and all.

Nate's parents drove us all to homecoming in their van. I was sitting in the back directly behind Nathan. He dropped his hand down beside the seat so that he could hold my hand. By the end of the night Nathan and I just couldn't hide it anymore. Nate's mom will tell you that it was the most awkward night...watching us switch dates! We didn't have to tell our friends...they could see that we had fallen for each other. We ate at Planet Hollywood in Downtown Dallas and afterwards walked around a bit. There were guys out selling roses on the streets and Nathan bought me one. I am pretty sure I was floating on cloud 9 at that point.

The next weekend I had a cheerleading competition and Nate had a baseball tournament the same day. He came by they gym before he had to leave and officially asked me to be his girlfriend. That was November 1st, 1996. We also won a bid to Nationals that day. Nov. 1st, 1996 was a good day!

We quickly became inseparable and spent all of our time together. I just knew he was the one. I could feel it in down in my soul. God had made this boy for me and my life would never be the same. I told everyone that I knew that I was going to marry this boy...and they all were like mmhm, sure you're 15 girlfriend. But I knew and that's all that mattered....

pt 2 coming soon
