{Cub Scouts}

In yesterday's post I mentioned that we did something exciting on Sunday. We signed Mason up for Cub Scouts!!! A Boy/Cub Scouts leader came to his school last week and talked to them about joining and all the fun things they do. Mason couldn't wait to tell me as soon as he got in the car. We called his dad on the phone and Mason told him all about it and asked if him he could sign-up. Nathan of course said yes. Nathan and I have an agreement when it comes to Mason that we will let him try anything he wants to do {as long as it is safe, of course!}. We want him to find his passions in life and how else could he do that if we didn't let him try different things?

Sign-ups were Sunday afternoon at the scout hut in town. When we pulled up I noticed one of Mason's friends on the playground right outside of the hut. Mason was so excited because it was a good possibility that the friend was signing up for scouts as well. And if nothing else, they got to play on the playground together. They played for a good 20 minutes before we had to go inside. Side note - Mason and his friend went to the same daycare/preschool until Mason was three. They were the best of buds. Then we moved to a different preschool and lost contact with them other than Facebook. The friend was in a different district for Kindergarten, but moved to our district for first grade. So, he and Mason were reunited this school year and Mason couldn't be more excited. The friend did sign up for boy scouts and so now they can do it together.

Anyhow, we signed Mason up and got all of the information while he listened to a Dallas Policeman. The police talked to them about his job, showed them his taser and also put them each in handcuffs. It was neat. Mason got his shirt, first set of patches and his Cub Scout book as well. He's a Tiger {first graders}. I am looking forward to doing this with him. It sounds like all of the things we love doing anyway; camping, hiking, field trips, exploring nature, etc. Mason is eager to shoot a bow and arrow.

This is something pretty new for us, but we are excited about it. Can't wait to see what kind of adventures this will bring.

  2. Oh my word friend this is flashbacks for me. My parents were HEAVILY involved in boy scouts and I may or may not have attended more than my fair share of meetings too. Mason is going to make the best Boy Scout ever.

  14. Awhoo hoo! I love it when young ones get involved with stuff. My youngest has tried dance, basketball, track & gymnastics. She didn't like basketball or track but she stuck it out for one season. Dance she was in many years before she finally decided this year that she wanted to concentrate on gymnastics & drop dance.
