{Local places // Munster Mansion}

It's no secret how much I love our litte town. I talk about it all the time on this blog. It's such a gem and is filled with so much character and charm. I think I have also mentioned a time or two that when Nate and I were dating we would drive out here just to look at all of the old Victorian homes. We adored the town, but never in a million years thought we would live here one day. Living here is amazing and kind of like a dream. Our only regret about moving from the city to here is that we didn't do it sooner.

I remember driving by this place not long after we moved here and was thinking 'what the heck was that?' It didn't take us long to learn that it was the Munster Mansion. It's a complete replica from the 1960's tv show The Munsters.  The owners have spent so much time making the outside as well as the inside a complete duplicate of the actual mansion from the show.

You can book a group tour or even a private tour of the mansion throughout the year. They also open once a year for tours around Halloween. They donate the money they make during that weekend to a children's charity. And you can even meet an actor from the show during that weekend.

The mansion sits off of a 2 lane county road and there is no parking. (I believe there is shuttle from a nearby church) I've tried many times to get a picture when driving by, but the trees are covering more and more of the property these days.

This is the best I've managed to get...

Anyhow, if you're in the DFW area and looking for something to do around Halloween come check out the Munster Mansion. And then you can eat at the haunted Catfish Plantation!

Do you have any cool places like this around you?

  1. I'm a total wimp when it comes to scary things, but that house sounds really cool! I've been through Waxahachie tons of times, but haven't spent much time there. I definitely need to plan a Saturday sometime soon exploring there!

  3. What?! This is so cool!!
    I don't know of any places like that around LA, but there is a house in Iowa, fairly close to my hometown, that is known for an exorcism that happened in the 20s. I've never been, but kind of want to check it out one day.

  5. This is so cool! I love when people do things like that. About 3 hours from us we have the Orange Blossom Cannonball train that was use in the movies True Grit, There Will Be Blood, 3:10 to Yuma, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, and some others. It is pretty cool, it's fully operational and they let you ride in the vintage coaches.

  10. I don't know of anything like that around here but there's this place by where I grew up called the Winchester Mystery House. Even though I hate scary things, I've been there before and it was actually pretty cool, not too scary. It's more weird than anything like you walk up a set up stairs and open the door at the top and you come out of a closet. So weird but interesting at the same time!
