{Fourth of July Bike Parade // Summer bucketlist update}

One of our favorite things to do at Mill Creek is the Fourth of July bike parade. Everyone gathers together at the RV lodge to decorate their bikes or golf carts in all the red, white and blue and then parades through the RV resort. I think our love for this tradition started when Mason was just three years old. He wanted to join the bike parade so bad. We of course let him, but had no hopes of him making it very far. However, he proved us wrong! He finished the entire route of the parade!! He may have come in a long while after the rest of the parade, but he finished. His little ol' legs were working in overdrive and he was determined. We were so impressed with his endurance and determination at such a young age. I don't think we will ever forget it.

This year we met at the RV lodge at 10 am on Saturday morning to start decorating. We brought most of our own decorations, but decided to join everyone and take advantage of their scissors and tape. It only took us about 5-10 minutes to decorate our bike as was the case with most of the other paraders. The parade wasn't scheduled until 10:45, but we figured they would start early since everyone was ready. But, that wasn't the case. We sat out there in the scorching HOT and even started the parade 5 minutes late. A group of people walked up at 10:35 with not a single decorated bike and the entire group had to wait for them! I just knew that Mason and Nate were going to quite before it even started. We were sweating like pigs and getting sunburned! But, my boys stuck it out. Nate even carried the GoPro while biking!

When the boys got to our campsite my mother in law and brother in law were armed and ready with water guns! I am sure it was refreshing to the boys. They didn't end up finishing because a little girl had fallen down and they stopped the parade to help her. The boys came back at that point. They had as much heat as they could stand!

And with this trip we crossed off three more things on our Summer bucketlist.

  1. Looks like fun, even though it was too hot! We usually decorate our bikes too, but this year we didn't, probably because Gabbie isn't here to encourage that sort of thing!

  15. Moving right along on the bucket list! That's such a fun tradition. Maybe in slightly cooler weather. Everyone should line up with water guns to make it more bearable. And isn't it crazy how determined three year olds can be? Half the time they have no attention span whatsoever, and the other half they're so single-minded and focused it's crazy!
