{GT field trip to Austin TX // February 18th 2020}

I'm still blogging February and trying to catch up here. Back on February 18th, Mason's gifted & talented class got to have a field trip to Austin, TX. Nathan and I were so fortunate to be able to take the day off of work and join him! I couldn't imagine him traveling to GT without us. I've never denied being a helicopter mom. Plus, it sounded like a really fun time.

We had to be at the school before 7:00 for a 7:15 take-off time. Which meant we had to leave our house around 6:40 am (snoooooze). But, we managed and all was well. Mason was ecstatic about his trip and riding the bus with his friends.

 We stopped at Bucees on the way there to let the kids use the restroom and get some drinks & snacks. I worried that it may be a little crazy taking 17 fourth graders into Bucees, but it wasn't too bad. We were in and out in about 25 minutes or so.

And then we were on our way to Austin! Our first stop was the Bob Bullock museum. It's filled with Texas history and such a beautiful building. We had never been there, so we were excited to check it out. We walked through several exhibits and watched a short film (interactive style). Then it was time for lunch! We picnic'd outside of the museum while watching a huge crane working behind us.

Then it was back to the museum to finish the 2nd floor. There were so many neat exhibits in the Bob Bullock and I am grateful we got to experience it.

After the museum we bussed up and drove over to the Capitol. We started by letting the kids run off some energy in a grassy area outside of the visitor center. We had a bit of time before our tour time of the Capitol visitor center. The kids needed that time after having to conserve their energy and outside voices at the museum.

Then it was time for our tour and activity!

After our time at the visitor center we started making our way over to the Capitol. Surprisingly, Nathan and I have never been. We were in complete awe of the building, the architecture, and the history!

After we toured the Capitol it was time to head home. Thankfully, we were able to check Mason out and he could ride home with us. We were so grateful for that option as the bus didn't get home until almost 10:30 that night. We got home around 8:30!

We had an incredible time and can now cross off "Visit the Capitol" off our bucket list!
