{The Grinch's Lair // Palestine 2019}

We all know that a trip to Palestine is not complete without a trip to the Grinch's Lair! I think this was our 4th visit to the lair, maybe the 5th. Whatever the number might be, it never ever disappoints. Mason looks forward to visiting his favorite Grinch each time we are in the area. It's so fun and festive and the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

If you're looking for a fun family activity to do together, The Grinch's Lair is a definite good time! Palestine is only a short 1.5-2 hour drive from the DFW area and worth every minute of the trek there. It's set-up inside of an old jailhouse, making it even that much cooler. Everyone is in complete character and the lair is decked out so incredibly well. Each room is Grinch themed and filled with Who's and of course, the Grinch is sure to be roaming the lair. So much fun! If you go, tell them that the Halls sent you and that we say hello!!

I tell you Max, I don't know why I ever leave this place. I've got all the company I need right here.

We got to the Grinch's Lair around 1:30 pm on Saturday and Mason was so eager to find the Grinch! So, we did just that.

Mason spent some time catching up with the Grinch and taking some fun pictures! And then we went to check out the rest of the lair. There were some changes this year, so that was fun and neat to see. It's amazing how much thought and work goes into every single inch of this place! We are just in awe with every corner we turn.

After checking out the tour we met up back with the Grinch! He asked Mason if he could take him on a personal tour of the lair. Of course, Mason obliged. The Grinch is hilarious and so great with the kids! Mason was cracking up the whole time.

You may remember me sharing this picture a few years ago {and every year since!}...

It's one of my most favorite pictures! It won a contest and was on a lot of their advertising for a while. Well, the Grinch in that picture is the OG Grinch. One of the owners/operators of the Texas Jailhouse & The Grinch's Lair. He has since passed the Grinch torch onto another person, but still hangs out at the lair. The new Grinch is doing a fabulous job.

Right before we were about to go on the tour of the lair with the Grinch I heard someone say "Hello Halls". Nate stayed back to talk to whoever that was that said that. I went with Mason and the Grinch. I just assumed it was someone from Nate's work. It seems like he runs into someone from work everywhere we go! ha. But after our tour, we met back up with Nate and it turns out that it was the OG Grinch!! He recognized us from the years past. It was neat to meet him in person and out of character. From then on we walked around the lair with him catching up and checking out some new things. We talked about our favorite picture and how it's almost impossible to recreate one that we love just as much.

Then we went downstairs to chat with the other owner of the lair. They are such incredible and kind people. They told Mason that he could come any time and play a character for a day. Mason is all about that and has begged us every day since to go back for that.

Again, if you are in the DFW area...heck...if you're in Texas do yourself a favor and go to Palestine! Visit the Grinch's Lair!! Your kids and even you will love it. And make it a yearly family tradition like we do.

It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
