Every now and then, you get to experience a night so special that it feels like it was written just for you—and Thursday was one of those nights.
We had the opportunity to head over to Comerica Center in Frisco to watch the USA U18 hockey team take on Switzerland, and let me just say—it did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the energy in the arena was electric. The crowd was buzzing, the flags were waving, and the players on the ice were already dialed in, even during warm-ups. You could tell it was going to be a high-level, fast-paced game.
And it was. The intensity, talent, and pure skill on that ice were nothing short of jaw-dropping. These young players are not only incredibly skilled, but their grit and determination are something else entirely. Every shift was played like it mattered—which it did. Watching them battle it out with such focus and fire made the whole arena feel alive. It was such a treat to witness, and for Mason, it was more than just a game. It was a glimpse into what’s possible with hard work, dedication, and love for the sport.
We were lucky enough to score seats right behind the USA bench—and let me tell you, that came with some pretty amazing perks. Being that close, we got to see and hear everything—the coaches shouting adjustments, the players hyping each other up, the team’s rhythm and chemistry in real time. It made the whole experience feel so personal and immersive.
But the night didn’t stop there.
At one point, the Team USA manager handed Mason a Team USA pin, which was already exciting enough… but then it got even better. One of the players had broken a stick during the game, and instead of it being discarded, the manager handed it to Mason—and then had the actual player who used it come over and sign it for him after the game. He also picked out a fresh USA jersey earlier in the night, so needless to say, he was having a great night.
Moments like that are what it’s all about. Hockey is so much more than just a game—it’s about the community, the opportunities, and the memories made along the way. This night gave Mason a front-row seat to what passion and perseverance can look like on a national level, and it was something we’ll all remember for a long time.
