{Mudbugs & Memories: Crawfish Boil on the Lake}

Saturday was one of those days that just fills your cup—sunshine, family, laughter, and a whole lot of Cajun flavor! We spent the day at the lakehouses (my parents’ and aunts’ homes all line the same street, which makes gatherings super easy and extra fun), and this weekend’s theme? A good old-fashioned crawfish boil!

It was such a fun day from start to finish. Family and lake neighbors came out, and the whole area had that relaxed, festive vibe that only a lakeside gathering can bring. There was plenty of eating (obviously), but also lots of dancing, storytelling, and just soaking up each other’s company. At one point, a group even hopped on the boat and took it out for a little cruise around the water—because what’s a lake day without a little time on the boat?

My aunt went all out with the decorations. She gave the whole setup that perfect Louisiana flair, complete with Cajun music playing in the background and festive touches that made it feel like we were celebrating in the heart of the bayou. She really brought the atmosphere to life, and it made everything feel so special.

Now let’s talk about the food... Crawfish was the star of the show for many—but not for me! Haha. I proudly remain a member of Team Sausage, Potatoes, and Corn. As much as I love a good boil, I just can’t get on board with the mud bugs. That said, I was definitely surrounded by folks who can—and did—throw down on them! Even Mason gave it a try for the first time, but I think he’s on my side for this one. He’s a big seafood fan, but crawfish? Not quite his thing. Still, it was fun watching him try something new and make the call for himself.

One of my favorite parts of the day was the slushee station. My aunt turned her margarita machine into a kid-friendly treat zone, and the kids LOVED it. I mean, what’s better on a warm spring day at the lake than an icy slushee in hand while running around with cousins?

It was just one of those days where everything clicked—the weather, the food, the people, and the memories being made. These are the kind of moments that stick with you, and I’m so thankful for family that loves big and knows how to throw a party. Crawfish may not be my thing, but I’ll show up every single time for days like this.
