{Summertime bucket-list // update}

 photo summertimebucket_zpsl9mtoopi.png

I can't believe how fast summer is flying by! I should have known, though, because Mase starts Kindergarten {wahhhh} in August. I am trying to milk every last second of these sweet summer days with him. We are steadily knocking things off of our spring/summer bucketlist. I started this back in the spring...but spring-time in Texas is so short that I extended it to summer-time as well.

+ have park dates after I pick up Mason from school >> changed this one to 'swim dates' at the YMCA - because 1.) it's Texas and too hot for the park and 2.) it's summer and Mason isn't in school. It's so nice to be able to take a dip in the pool after a long hot summer day...or a good workout at the gym!

 photo YMCA1_zpsqjprbrjj.jpg  photo YMCA2_zpsjsagmgyl.jpg

+ go to Texas Rangers opening Day >> I can't believe I didn't post about this! It must have completely slipped my mind, or I was too busy at that time. Because Opening Day is such a big deal to us! We had a fabulous time. Texas Rangers Opening Day should be a recognized holiday...I'm just saying!

 photo Opening day_zps2rompgtt.jpg

+ visit the Waxahachie Farmer's Market >> Mason and I went last Saturday and I was so disappointed. There was hardly anything there. Only one stand actually had fruits & veggies and then there were other random things like jams & jellies, straw hats and a jewelry stand. I am thinking it's probably much better in the early Fall. We will try again then. We did get some peaches, apples, plums and blue berries and Mason got to make a cool Venus Fly Trap. So, it wasn't a complete bust.

 photo FARMERS MARKET_zpskantixdq.jpg

+ put out our hummingbird feeders >> I put them out, but haven't seen very many hummingbirds yet. I am not sure why. Last year they came several times in the morning and several times in the evening. We'll keep waiting!

 photo IMG_5397_zpsmssjtumf.jpg

+ bike rides >> Mason got a new bike, but Nate and I still need new ones. We've taken him for rides a few times. We like to go in the evenings when it's cooler! And I can get sunset pictures. :)

 photo bike_zpspbav9qnx.jpg

+ go to Canton >> Post here and here

+ camping trips >> Posts here, here, and here

+ take Mason fishing >> Post here

+ plan Mason's birthday party >> Post here

+ go to Round Top, TX >> Post here

+ play outside until sundown  >> all day everyday!

+ snowcone dates >> this is almost a daily thing, too! haha. it's hot in Texas!

+ go to the bluebonnet trail/festival in Ennis >> Post here and here

+ kindergarten roundup/registration >> we went & conquered, but I can't find any pictures. It went well and we met so many nice people. I only cried a few times.

+ go to antique alley >> Post here

+ DISNEYWORLD!!!! >> Posts here

These are pretty much a fail...

+ take Mason to the Zoo >> Um, no! This one was definitely added in the Spring. We've reached the miserable hot weather in Texas so this one will have to be moved to the Fall.

+ start/play T-Ball >> This season was craaaaaazzay! The wild spring we had this year rained out 5 or 6 of our games. That's more than half. They tried making them up, but it just kept raining and then it was time for summer ball to start. We really weren't that mad about it. haha. One post here

+ sit on the porch with a fire in the chiminea >> Oh I wish! But there was a bad storm while we were in Disney World and it took down a tree which slammed on to my chiminea and shattered it to pieces. So sad! I loved that thing. I will be getting a new one in the Fall.

+ plant/buy flowers for the porch >> only kind of a fail. I replanted 1 pot and created 2 more. And then one was given to us by family!

+ take the dogs to the lake/creek >> We no longer have Gunner {post to come} and Diesel isn't a lake/creek type of dog.

Still left to do...

+ grill out dates at home
+ pick up food and have a park date/picnic on a Friday night
+ have suppers on the patio
+ go on hikes and long walks
+ go to the drive in movies
+ take a different class at the gym
+ play with sidewalk chalk
+ play in the rain
+ take Summer pictures
+ knock some things off our Texas bucketlist
+ go to Ranger games
+ clean out our garage
+ major Spring cleaning and purging {aka Mason's room}

Do you have a summer-time bucketlist? How's it coming along?

{It's the Little Things // laying in the driveway}

A photo posted by >>> Crystal <<< (@hallaroundtexas) on

I posted this on Instagram yesterday and knew it was something I wanted to also post here on the blog. It's just one of those little things I love and want to remember always. One Spring day Mason and I were hanging out outside while Nathan was mowing and doing yardwork. I laid down on the driveway and Mason came up beside me and giggled and said "what are you doing Mama?" I told him I was just laying on the warm pavement and looking up to the clouds. He put his bike up and came and snuggled up beside me. We laid there and talked about everything under the sun {literally!} for what felt like an hour or more. It has since become our thing. Mason will randomly ask me, "Can we go lay in the driveway Mama." And I happily oblige every time! It's just our thing.

{You're the reason God made Oklahoma}

Jimtown OK

This past Sunday we traveled to Oklahoma to visit Nathan's side of the family. His Grandfather had surgery a couple of weeks ago and we wanted to go visit with him and to see how he was doing. He beat us to the front door ready to pass out hugs!! We were so happy to see him up and around and doing so well.

We had a wonderful visit! And Mason was on his very best behavior and was so sweet to his Great Grandparents. He cuddled on the couch with his Great-Grandpa for hours! It makes my heart so happy that Mason is able to visit with his Great Grandparents and to have a relationship with them.

 photo jimtown1_zpsy3tqvw8y.jpg

As I was sitting there soaking up the family time I couldn't help but think about how much simpler life is there. No computers, no smartphones {although MeMaw does have an iPad, but she doesn't use it much}, no social media 24/7, no hustle & bustle...it's just simpler. People actually pick up the phone and call one another or they stop by to visit face to face. The town has history and everyone knows everyone. I loved to sit there and listen to Papa Johnny's stories and to hear him talk about calling an 'old friend' to reminisce. How cool is that? And just the simplest of things made me smile from the inside out...like hearing that he has a pecan tree in his front yard that is over 82 years old...or that he helped with a cattle drive {getting cattle out of the Red River bottoms}...How many can say that?

 photo IMG_7164_zpsgpjwaewf.jpg
It was so nice to spend hours unplugged and enjoying family, stories and the calm and quiet. I definitely can't wait to go back.

How was your weekend?

{Sunflowers in Texas}

 photo IMG_7009_zpsdkdsqpki.png

When we first moved out to the country {8 years ago} I remember being intrigued & in love with all of the sunflower fields out here. Coming from the city this wasn't something that we saw everyday. But, as the years went on it seemed like they were fewer and farther between. Well, this year they were back and they were beautiful! I was quickly reminded of how much I just love these things. I could drive around for hours just looking at {and taking pictures of} all  of the sunflower fields. We also have wheat and cotton fields out here, but they're just not as pretty.

 photo 3_zps8qcblrrm.jpg  photo 1_zpsvlnw9nms.jpg  photo 2_zpsunhui0ab.jpg

Then, a couple of weeks ago my brother in law asked me to take some pictures of him & his girlfriend in the sunflowers and I was so excited! I just love how beautiful they are.

They say everything is bigger in Texas....and I think that's true with the Sunflowers this year!!

Are Sunflowers common where you live?

{My Canton First Monday Marketplace finds}

In yesterday's post about our fourth of July weekend I mentioned Canton and how I found some good stuff there. Well, today I am here to share my finds. Each Canton trip is such an adventure...you never know what you're going to find. And it's gotten so much better since Pinterest came around! You know...all those projects you pin, but never make? The ones you'd happily pay someone else to make? You can definitely find those at Canton. Those wreaths I made? That chicken wire photo frame? There was a plethora of them at Canton.

Anyhow...here are some of my Canton finds...

The metal "H" and the metal Texas are going on our gallery wall. I also got a metal arrow and a wood cutout that says "HOME" and has a Texas cutout as well. I think I'm going to paint it royal blue.

A Mason jar because I am obsessed. It now resides with two other "perfect mason" jars I have on my windowsill above my kitchen sink.

The turquoise eggs. I love all things turquoise and these eggs were just precious. I already had some eggs in this basket...but they were tiny and definitely weren't this cute.

A metal H that lights up! I have been wanting a piece like this forever. I'm still on the lookout for a light up star...let me know if you see one somewhere! :) And this is what it looks like at night all lit up...

 photo Light-up H_zpslpbydnro.png

A new flag for my little flag-pole. The front has a letter H {starting to see a theme here? give me all the letter 'H' things. ha} and the back says welcome. I needed a little more red for our porch as it was leaning mostly towards turquoise.

And a big Texas wall decor made out of old barnwood. We haven't decided if we're going to 1.) leave as is, 2.) paint it, or 3.) paint a star over where we live in Texas. Taking votes.

And not pictured...I also got 2 pairs of earrings, 2 headbands, a necklace, a bracelet, a pair of Texas earrings for my brother in law's girlfriend, and a few other things.

Have you been to Canton? or do you have something similar where you live?

{Our fourth of July weekend // camping at Mill Creek Resort}

 photo IMG_6850_zpsasbsiwfu.png

What an amazing weekend we had! I think with each passing year I love the Fourth of July more and more. The festivities, the patriotism, all of the red, white & blue, the bbqs, the fellowship, fireworks, ALL of it. It's almost becoming a tradition for us to camp at Mill Creek Ranch Resort in Canton for the 4th weekend. I saw in my timehop app that we started coming here over 6 years ago! We stay in Nate's parents camper, but you can rent cabins there too. It's such a nice resort and they have different activities spread out throughout the weekend. So incredibly fun!

And the best part? It's right down the street from Canton First Monday. What is Canton First Monday? Oh...it's AMAZING! It's a humongous flea market that comes to the town of Canton, TX the weekend before the first Monday of the month. They have all kinds of goodness...home decor, furniture, rustic metal pieces, wood cutouts of anything and everything, metal yard art, crafting supplies, trendy boutique style clothes, purses, shoes and jewelry, anything & everything! It's such a fun place to shop. So much of the things in our house are from Canton. I will show all of my finds from this weekend soon. :)

Nathan, Mason and I went down on Thursday after work. The majority of our group was already there. We hung out for a bit until everyone reached the point of starvation and then we headed to Jalepeno Tree for supper. We came back to our campsites and hung out a little more before calling it a night.

Friday morning the ladies got up and ready for Canton while the boys stayed back to swim, paddle boat and fish. Once we got to Canton we split into a couple of groups because some wanted to visit the arbors and others wanted to go to the junk/antiques outside! I was in a small group with one of my girlfriends and we found some amazing stuff! We couldn't believe how non-crowded it was and there was also a nice breeze. It was a perfect day for Canton! We all met back up a couple of hours later and shopped a bit more before leaving to grab lunch. Then we went back to the campsites and a group of us went to the pool! Nate swam with Mason and our friend's 4 year old while April and I sat on the side with our feet in the water taking pictures. The only way we could get Mason out of the pool was by bribing him with the Rt Beer floats they were making at the lodge! But as soon as he got it he wanted right back in the pool. Ha! That evening some of us went up to the Grand Lodge for some live Texas Country Music. Matt Bradshaw was playing an acoustic gig and he was pretty good!

Saturday we got up and hit Canton once again! There were a few things we wanted to go back for. That always happens to us! We decide against something when we're there...go home and sleep on it and decide we really wanted it! ha. We didn't stay long because the heat was brutal. But, there was still no one there. We were shocked. We've been there in July when you're basically shoulder to shoulder with everyone. And since it was so hot we came back for a swim. This time the whole family plus some were in the pool! Mason was a little fish! He did so great in the pool all weekend and swam all over the place. We kept floaties on him because the majority of the pool was deep and there were other wild kids in the pool! Better to be safe! But, we were so happy with the results of his swim lessons! He was jumping in, going under water, holding his breath under water for a good amount of time, etc. I will definitely recommend our swim instructor to anyone!!! She's amazing. Mason joined in the bike parade at 2:30, but was having issues with his bike so he didn't get to finish the parade route. {we later had to take this bike back because the pedals were messed up}, but he had fun! And then later we went back to the pool/lodge for s'mores. YUM! But, it sure was hot at the firepit and with the Texas heat! We got one and booked it. ha. That evening we cooked burgers & hotdogs and then let the kids play with sparklers and other smaller fireworks. Then we watched the big firework show from town! It was a good night. Sunday was coming home day. Womp. womp.
