This past week, we officially kicked off our JV Summer League season and we started strong, walking away with a W in our very first game! 🙌
The day itself was extra special because all four of our hockey teams played back-to-back at our home ice. The atmosphere was absolutely electric...teammates, families, and friends filled the rink with energy, support, and excitement. There’s just something about home ice and a full day of games that brings everyone together in the best way.
What makes this win even sweeter is the fact that our team is made up of a brand new mix of players this season. We’ve got returning players from last year’s JV team, some kids from the other JV squad, and a few fresh faces who’ve recently aged up and are now eligible to play. Even with no practice under their belts, this group came together and played like they’d been a team for months.
It was honestly such a fun game to watch. The energy on the ice was high, and the chemistry among the players was impressive...especially for it being their first time playing together in this new lineup. You could tell they were having fun, learning each other’s strengths, and starting to build the kind of teamwork that wins games and builds confidence.
Mason’s head coach wasn’t able to be at the game due to some family commitments, so the other coach made a game-time decision and put Mason on offense. While he has been playing defense...and I know that’s where his heart is...he jumped right in and gave it his all. He did really well, and it was great to see him step up and be flexible. That’s one of the things I admire most about him: his willingness to do what’s needed for the team.
Of course, I know he’s looking forward to getting back to his spot on defense, but it was a good experience for him and a reminder that learning different positions only makes you a stronger, more well-rounded player.
All in all, it was a great start to the season. Between the back-to-back games, the crowd energy, and a solid team win, the whole day just felt exciting and full of potential. I’m so excited to see how this team continues to grow and come together over the next several weeks. If this first game is any indication, it’s going to be a season full of growth, hustle, and plenty more exciting moments. Bring it on, Summer League!
