{Homeschool // 2020}

 Long before Covid hit, we had decided to homeschool Mason for the 2020/2021 school year. It's something we have talked about and prayed about for years and we felt that it was a good time to do so. To be honest, Mason was being held back in his current district. He knew the content and thus was getting very bored in class. Because he was bored, he would start talking and land himself in trouble every day (or so it seemed). Also, there were some changes happening in his district for the next school year, and that helped make our decision even that much easier!

Then Covid hit and quarantine happened... I was so worried that this new way of life and the "virtual school" was going to ruin him for wanting to do homeschool for 5th grade. I had to keep reminding him that this was not planned and that teachers were scrounging to figure all of this out, just like we were. Fortunately, it didn't ruin or break him completely! He understood and was still on board for homeschooling for 5th grade!

Nathan and I researched all kinds of online programs and landed on Texas Connections Academy! They have a very organized program and it fits our family's needs. On September 8th, 2020 Mason started his very first day of "actual" homeschool.

We are almost two months in and it's going extremely well! I love having my boy home with me, getting to move at our own pace, and having flexibility for our lifestyle. Also, I see and hear horror stories every day from Mamas of kids in the district he would be in and it makes me so thankful we chose this route! Mason is excelling and actually being challenged! That's all that we could ask for.

I can't even describe the amount of stress that has been lifted off my shoulders by taking Mason out of public school. I no longer worry about him being away from me all day, Sunday evenings are chill and not tense like they were when he was in public school, I don't worry about leaving on a Friday for vacation (we just get all of his work done M-F), or having to check him out early for things, etc.

So.grateful.

How's school going for your kids this year?

(PS - I'm catching up on the blog trying to backdate things as they happened)
